Yep, you read that right. I told Bro on Monday that I have got to get into the head of a Liberal, stalk around a while, peel some of the paint off the walls and see what was painted-over and touched-up, maybe knock in some holes and see what's on the other side, in the next room where I hear all the screaming and smell something burning.

So, fora week, I'll be liberal -- sometimes, anyway. I'll give it my bestest shot.

Bro called me up this morning, ranting on how stupid he was for buying such a low-priced house. He said that if he'd just spent more on his mortgage, stretched himself super-thin and was facing foreclosure, then Obama would bail him out before he defaulted. He'd have a bigger house, sponsored by the Fed! What a fool he was!

Anyway, I went Liberal on him.

I said, "Dude, these folks didn't intentionally stretch themselves thin. They are the victims of a corporate machine that duped them into believing they could afford a house that was well beyond their means. They signed on with these ARM loans -- which we nowsee are scams -- and are getting whacked with an incredible increase in their interest rates. Nobody saw this coming.

"Furthermore, they are victims of a corporate-manufactured crash that has dramatically reduced the value of their homes, while at the same timemaking the rich even richer. Again, nobody saw this coming.

"Now, if we ~don't~ do something about these people losing their houses, and do it ~now~, then this crisis will continue to worsen. Think of Obama's home loans as a compress on a bleeding wound. We have to do something for these people. Letting them be homeless is unnacceptable. And taxing the folks responsible for the crash -- the corporatemachine, a.k.a 'The Rich'-- is the most logical way to apply this medicine."

I also reiterated that I officially believe that nobody in America should own a second home, until everyone in America owns one home. I even threw in some stuff about the folks who got laid-off, shouldn't they have some help! Then I lamented him to show some freaking compassion for his fellow Americans in need.

Did I do okay for my first stab at being a Liberal?

I should mention that my attempt is not to be sarcastic. I am trying to make a genuine effort to argue the other side's point.

I was in debate and extemporaneous speaking back in high school and college. You'd draw which side you argued -- you didn't get to choose.

I always had a tough time arguing the liberal side. I remember once, back in 1989, I had to argue something about war in the Middle East, and I drew the Liberal card. I had to attack the corporate infrastructure, how we'd trade oil for blood and so forth, do you want to see your sons die for no reason, shouldn't we keep our nose out of foreign affairs, if we left them alone, they'd leave us alone. And so forth. I used 80% emotion, 20% fact. My argument didn't make a bit of damned sense to me, but I placed!

So really, I'm trying to get my hands around the other half's head.I want to understand why a smart person would have such a different view of the same thing.

It seems Liberal arguments are centered mostly on emotional points, stoked by a deeply embedded sense of right-and-wrong, with conspiratorial undertones aimed at the wealthy (Conservatives have the same conspiracy theories, but aimed at the gov't more than free market), and a huge compassion for people who for one reason or another have not been able to find fortune or success in America. Liberals either want to help, or be helped.

I would LOVE to see Camera and M8 and some of the other intelligent Liberals do the same thing, but argue a Conservative Point-of-View, and some of my fellow Cons try to argue the Lib side.

The arguments won't be pretty, or even that logical, but I'm finding it's a good exercise.

It's a bit like drinking catsup, but a worthwhile effort.

As a temporary Liberal (I'll join ya!) let's wear pink ballet clothes, skip onto a thread, hug everyone and save the Pigeons. Pigeons, if you don't know it, are in danger of not having enough food. And thereby not going poop on our dreaded neighbor's car. Ok Libs I be joking! I'm an animal lover or more importantly those four legged love me?

Everytime I see a cow it goes "MOoooo, got milk? Psst I've give ya some for asteroid fix..."

As a liberal I want to change eha to force everyone to use the letter Q. And the vowel e. As in ei, ei o. Also I want an eha badge that allows me to pull over posters and give them a ticket for speeding in a post (posting while not using PC language.) Ta dum.

And the word of the day that is banned is...{drums rolling} "rush." I figure as a temp Lib if we ban the use of Rush, no one can talk about him! This is all in jest, there were no Libs or Neo Cons hurt while making this message.

How did you do, Saul? Well, since I'm a Democrat, but get categorized as a Liberal, I guess I can try to answer that question. Well, no I can't. So I'll answer it as a Moderate, how's that?

I would have to disagree with you on the mortgage bail-out. I don't think that people who couldn't afford their house in the first place, regardless of how they got suckered into an adjustable rate mortgage, should get a penny. Their home should go into fore-closure. Period.

However, I do think that the folks who have lost their jobs due to the economy, and own a home that they put 20% down on, and had a mortgage payment that was well within their means when they were working, should be entitled to a piece of the obligatory pie that the government is dishing out.

Will they actually get it? Probably not. The ones who actually deserve something, are typically the ones who get nothing.
