Hiya everyone, when I first posted on the politics board, I was a real bonehead to some Liberals. Then a few Liberal women PMed me and were nice! How dare they! I had just hijacked one thread by innocent mistake ...and the OP was actually kind to me. So I deleted my posts. Lately I have posted much here though some are complaining it's getting to be bad.

How can eha members on the political board be more respectful to each other? How can we cut down on personal insults? Anyhoo I'll be working and offline all dayand part of the night. So make nice!

I told my bro on Monday that I am a temporary Liberal. I haven't been very effective so far -- I cannot seem to clamp my brain to the tracks of the Liberal train of thought -- but it's helped calm me down a little.

As an exercise, Bro and I argued the other side's point. It helped. It was kinda ridiculous, but a good exercise.

As to your question, I saw a post of yours in a recent thread where there was only one poster who was being disrespectful and he/she has been removed by eHa. Is there going to be discention in a politics discussion board yes, but many are trying to keep it civil.

Outlaw please see PM I sent you regarding other parts of your post.

Based on at least one thread here today, civil is hardly the word I'd use.

Lol, cool, I like that-innovation! Yeah I need to remember we need Liberals...to keep us honest? I'll have to remember what you did before the next time I want to blast a lib.

Practice/Explore (the Power of) Positive Intent.....

".....The approach removes from the equation our having to try and prove the contrary assumption that the person or persons really had bad intent. We are not distracted at the level of some nebulous non-provable negative mental state. Instead we are giving credit for a positive mental state (equally nonprovable) so that we can clearly focus on what has happened and the emergent pattern of observable behaviors and the real-life consequences of those behaviors.

This allows us to deal with the realm of facts and specific behaviors versus accusations and assertions. Thus, greater clarity and responsibility result when we can say something like, "I don't care what you intended to happen.

....."In fact, I believe that you meant well and had good intentions. Your intentions are not the issue. The issue is what you did and the outcomes that behavior produced."

"Since I believe you meant well, the real issue is what we need to learn from this in terms of the linkage between your actions and the outcomes we have experienced. To produce better outcomes will require different behaviors."

".....When we assume positive intent we can focus more clearly and communicate more crisply and efficiently because we have taken off the table any sense of personal attack and are instead focusing on specific things that were done or not done and upon outcomes.

Are you ready for a more effective assumption? Are you ready to assume positive intent?....."

Note: These above statements are excerptswritten by Robert Staub, Explore the Power Of Assuming Positive Intent. I wish all threaderswell.

I'm copying over my post from the Community group on this topic:

Maybe it would be good if everyone who particpates in that forum could also keep in mind the things both sides have in common:

-love for their country
-a desire for all of its citizens to live in health and prosperity
-a desire for the things which are not working, to be corrected

Now, before I start hearing that Liberals dont' love this country because blah blah blah and Conservatives don't REALLY want ALL citizens to live well and prosper because yadda yadda yadda, just -- don't go there. Because if you guys TRULY want intelligent, productive discourse in that forum instead of vitriolic posts with a side of biting sarcasm ALL the time, you're going to have to cut each other a bit of slack.

It CAN be done.
