at least you read the thread.

so... what would compromise be, TP?
An example of compromise would be a couple choosing a film to see that they both can enjoy together or watching a film more to his tastes one night and her tastes the next. This proposal is akin to them parting ways and seeing separate films.

Rush's proposal erroneously asserts that the generalized voting habits of individuals with regard to the presidential election implies their agreement or disagreement on every issue, polarizing the matter.

Rush is, at best, a gadfly ... but more likely he's just an entertainer, feeding his market with what they want to hear. It's easy to sit on the sidelines and complain about errors (real or imagined) made by players on the field.

the stakes are a bit higher here than a movie or dinner. not comparable.

gadfly or not (your opinion) - he is very entertaining to listen to... yes - an entertainer. if you find him irritating, don't listen... and if you don't listen, you have nothing to gripe about, right?

edited to correct my horrible spelling.

Compromise is the same regardless of the "stakes" ... it involves concessions made by the involved parties where there is disagreement. Rush's proposal is not a compromise.

I'm not a Rush fan, but I agree that the politicians need to put aside the differences and really do what's best for the nation and for the future of our country.

therein lise the rub... you see it one way, i see it another and johnny sees it totally different. sure, we can all *say* we're putting aside our differences until it's time to do something.

i'll put aside my differences so long as you agree with me... hahahaha
One must define "compromise"

In the Conservative Dictionary:

Compromise: when two or more parties give up certain things in order to get other thing they desire, thus reaching an agreement acceptable to all parties.

In the Liberal Dictionary:

Compromise: when the right gives up and agrees with us, supporting ideas that are anathema to everything they believe in.

Quite simple, really.

the left's idea of compromise is to get what they want. the republican's (notice i did not say the right) idea of compromise is to do just that. they compromised their butt off in the previous two terms. where is that spirit now? gone.. poof...

you watch your chick flick tonight - tomorrow it's an action movie... chinese tonight - tomorrow cheeseburgers... a trillion for you, a trillion for me. deal? if that doesn't suit you, let's compromise and say that we reduce the stimulus by one half. yeah, that'll fly like a lead zeppelin. it won't be long before the tired old lines of starving kids and killing old people start to fly.

Not for liberals. They can't have the great unwashed having free access to non-approved broadcasts.

the left's idea ...
Polarizing, erroneously, will not win you any debates.

i'd venture to guess that neither of us is too interested in changing our minds on this stuff, but it's fun to spar.
