"""

CAIRO, Egypt – President Barack Obama chose an Arabic satellite TV network for his first formal television interview as president , part of a concerted effort to repair relations with the Muslim world that were damaged under the previous administration.

"""

HOLY CRAP!

Guess we know where we stand, eh. His first call as President was to Palestine, not Israel, not France, not GB or Germany or Canada. And now his first television interview as President is with an Arab station, to the Arab people, not with the people who elected him!

We just got snubbed, folks! The first mixed-race president, reeking and steaming and rolling in history, and for his first interview, he turns his back on us and goes to an Arabic station.

I feel so used...

Another quote from the article:

"""

Obama said the U.S. had made mistakes in the past but "that the same respect and partnership that America had with the Muslim world as recently as 20 or 30 years ago, there's no reason why we can't restore that."

"""

Yeah, we had such agreat relationship with them 20 years ago, back when they could freely bomb us, without fear of retaliation. Dang, I miss all those burning American flags, don't yall? I'm gonna invest in a flag-slash-kerosine plant, and open it in Dubai. I'll sell presoaked flags, with stars that get all sparkly when you flame em up.

And I thought he wanted change. Did he just say he wanted to do the same thing we did 20 years ago? Hell, that's not change, that's redundancy.

Oh, and even better, I didn't realize they had REPUBLICANS over there! These guys sound just like me!

"""

"I can't be optimistic until I see something tangible," said Hatem al-Kurdi, 35, a Gaza City engineer who saw parts of the interview. "Anyone can say nice words, but you have to follow with actions."

"He seems very interested in the Middle East issue but he didn't say exactly what he's going to do about it," Kurdi added.

"""

Hatem, Kurdi, if you read this, buddies, I got your back. I said the same things, verbatim in untranslated English, last October...

"""

After earlier dismissing Obama as following the same policies as his predecessor, officials from the militant Palestinian Hamas group softened their stance against the new president Tuesday.

"In the last couple of days there have been a lot of statements (from Obama), some of them very positive, and choosing this George Mitchell as an envoy," said Ahmed Youssef, a senior Hamas official interviewed on the Doha-based Al-Jazeera news network. "I think there are some positive things we have to count."

"""

And, finally, at least we have Hamas' support. Any takers on how long he'll have them on the t.rrorist list? I'm guessing they'll be off by April.

Takers?

It's fine with me. I've seen and heard enough of him already.

I fail to see how this translates into "turning his back on us". If this arguably questionnable and risky approach isn't a far cry and dramatic change from the Bush administration, then what is?

It's politically risky, yes. But it was a good-faith attempt to try a different approach with some of the more moderate elements in the Middle East, and to set a different tone with them. He made his positions clear, though, and the more radical elements there won't like a lot of what he said. He said nothing, from the portions of it I heard, that he hasn't already said here, so it's not as though he chose to share these opinions with "them" before "us".

"reeking" and "steaming" and "rolling" in history, saul? Even though Idetest it, I guess Ihave to admire your ability to use offensive terms that steer just shy of moderation-territory.

Just a question....how does Obama's interview hurt any of you? Why the vitriol? Why the upset? He's trying to make international relations better, people. Let's chill and see what happens.

Obama represents everyone in the U.S. when it comes to foreign relations. If you want better relations with arab nations the first thing you do is talk to them -- not talking to them hasn't worked. This is something different. Let our representative talk.

is that possible? i think i'm gonna read bernie goldberg's book about the 'slobbering love affair' the media has with obama.

hey - should the media get bailout money? that would make it nice and official, wouldn't it? hahahaha
