Hazmat ~ when the government rules the country you live in, you must put some faith in them to do the right thing by you.... and when a person such as Obama is rallying for change, it does put hope in people's minds especially with the economic climate as it is....

When there is so much gloom and doom forecast, people losing jobs/homes etc, to have someone at the top of the power grid saying that they may be able to help you, well, of course many people will (want to) believe it....

About people doing everything for theselves - not everyone can unfortunately.... people who are sick, needy, intellectually unable (even if it is a minor problem), people who are totally unconfident, people who feel oppressed and downtrodden and think they cant....

It would be great if everyone could do what they needed to for themselves (or have the support of their families or charities), but life doesnt work that way, unfortunately.... not in a capitalist society....

I see nothing wrong with giving people a handout....

Some people desperately need it to help them.... and those that dont, it doesnt matter to me....

We're a mixed bag here. There are far right, far left, and those of us that ride the fence. We will never agree on everything. The election of Barak Obama has brought sense of optimism that so far, has outweighed any real deeds on his part. My question is targeted at those of you who voted for the man, and have such high expectations.

What brings these huge expectations ? And what exactly do you think he will change to make America, and your life better ? (And please leave out any comparisons to past administrations, leave it to what will be better with B.O. in office)

And let's try to keep this civil.

Ican only tell you why I voted for President Obama, and what I expect; I don't know if my expectations meet your definition of "huge" or not, though.

I voted for Obama because for the first time - I would say EVER in my voting-enabled adult life - I felt like a truly exceptional person was running for president. He seemed a person ofextraordinary intelligence, talents, grace, judgment, experience, oratory and inspirational skills, and character.

I know Obama didn't have tons of experience in the political arena, especially on a national level, but his life experience is incredibly diverse and rich. And his accomplishments againstall odds - amazing.

I just realized as I write this, that I identify with President Obama. My parents were immigrants, I always felt "different" and was sometimes treated that way. But nothing was fiercer inside me than my knowledge that I was an American, as American as anyone, no matter what anyone said.

I could easily see that Obama gave African Americans all over the country the feeling that "Look at that! Look, look, look at that! We did it, we're in, we made it!"

But I just now realized that he gave ME that feeling, too. Gosh, it's a good, goodfeeling.

If I'm starry eyed and soon to be horribly disillusioned, then so be it. But in the meantime, I'll bask.

I am impressed with Obama's history as a community leader & as a Senator. That background gives him an understanding of how our communities work every day.

Many politicians have believed in the trickle down theory. They back the pocketbooks of their constituents & big business & blindly expects that this money & other benefits will somehow trickle all the way down to the citizens. Well, that just completely ignores greed & is very idealistic.... which we know never works in an economic system. This is why the class gap has grown considerably. The money does not trickle down. Obama has shown that he intends to correct this error.

I believe that he will be able to cut through more red tape... which has been ridiculous in Washington for a very long time.... than any other President in my lifetime. He has shown a great power of persuasion & reasonability.

So, I do expect President Obama to succeed in solving many everyday problems that citizens face. Problems that our governmenthas never even given a second thought to. I expect that he will pick apartour INEFFICIENT ways of government. That way we will cut government spending while maintiningthesame production levels.
