I agree that it was disrespectful and inappropriate. But, what is your point beyond that?

My point is this: why in the world would I just automatically support Obama just because he won the presidency? Why in the world would I even respect the man? They didn't respect Bush a lick. Where is it written that I must follow a different set of rules than everyone else?

The left has sown these seeds for 8 years. The whirlwind is now ripe to reaped. Since the left has been doing this sort of thing for decades, and playing nice with them doesn't seem to change the left's institutional attitude, I see no reason why I should play nice when they won't. We already know that doesn't work.

I think it would be a very good learning experience for the left to finally taste some of their own medicine. I think great good might come of it in the future.
Look, these debates we're having about more vs. less government are echoes from the founding (and earlier, in Europe). Older than dirt. People will disagree.

There's nothing wrong with a loyal opposition. Despite the rhetoric about the "unconstitutionality" of this or that, neither party intends to overthrow the regime.

You don't need to support Obama. I certainly didn't support Bush. Go back to the drawing board and work constructively to try to sway public opinion back to your position. If it doesn't sway, then perhaps there isn't enough support for what you believe.

He deserved it. Obama will probably receive the same reception

No, he didn't. It was poor form and I was sorry to see it happen.
You're right. He deserved worse, something like a good ol tar and feathering.

What was that about unity?
Were they saying "Boo" or "Boo-urns?"

Funny as it is, I'm pretty sure the story about the Clinton/Gore team removing all the Ws from the keyboardsof the White House and OEOB is not true.... Sorry, Lizzie!
Actually CC since I know a few people who worked there, it is true. Damages occurred and there was also a lot of trash left behind.

Please see some quotes from the NY Times:

The General Accounting Office, an investigative arm of Congress, said today that ''damage, theft, vandalism and pranks did occur in the White House complex'' in the presidential transition from Bill Clinton to George W. Bush. The agency put the cost at $13,000 to $14,000, including $4,850 to replace computer keyboards, many with damaged or missing W keys.

Some of the damage, it said, was clearly intentional. Glue was smeared on desk drawers. Messages disparaging President Bush were left on signs and in telephone voice mail. A few of the messages used profane or obscene language.

''A Secret Service report documented the theft of a presidential seal that was 12 inches in diameter from the Eisenhower Executive Office Building,'' next to the White House, on Jan. 19, 2001, the accounting office said.

Six White House employees told investigators that they had seen graffiti derogatory to Mr. Bush on the wall of a stall in a men's room. Other White House employees saw a sticker in a filing cabinet that said, ''Jail to the thief,'' implying that Mr. Bush had stolen the 2000 election. The report said all these employees were members of the current White House, but did not make clear whether any had also worked in the Clinton White House.

Part of the reason the story died a quick death is because President Bush directed his administration to down play the whole event because he did not find it to be very productive or a good use of time.

And Rand, the press in this countryis NOT leftist. Unless you're talking about Mother Jones or something similar, the press in this country is CORPORATE.
OMG this is more vacuous than the Grand Canyon. Like every other business each media sets itself up as a corporation for the rights and advantages (mostly tax and legal protection) they contain. By itself it means absolutely nothing. Somebody obviously told you "Corporate" was an ideology or a belief system not a business foundation.

BTW, guess what Mother Jones INC is? How about Michael Moore INC.? And so on, and so on, and so on.

The fact that you screamed this out in ALL-CAPS it's evident you thought you were delivering the ultimate trump-card. A flawless slam-dunk. This is the best laugh I've had all day! Thanks!

As I read these posts, all I can think is, "thank God I don't live there...or there...or there!"

Anyhoo, I was so full of joy yesterday that I took the day off work to enjoy the day's festivities. I have met the man several times and he is wonderfully intelligent and engaging. As for those who boo'd Former President Bush at the inauguration - absolutely in poor taste. Whether you supported his policies or not (and I did not), you must respect that he was our President and he and his family sacrificed parts of their lives to serve us.

Now, back to the currrent President, as I watched Good Morning America this morning, they were asking kids what they thought of the new President and one of the kids (a young, white girl of maybe 15) said, "he makes it cool to be smart." How nice is that! I, personally, find no joy in that whole folksy, "aww-shucks" thing that politicians try to do (read Sarah Palin) to"identify" with the voting public. I want my President to be smarter than me, and aww-shucks-good-ole-boys (or girls)don't do that for me.

And, to those people from those areas that I am so happy to never have to live, let me say, I am fully aware that I am stereotyping based on my own geographic snobbery, but your comments and the venum with which you write them don't do much to change my mind.

No more, or less, than your use of bold to add emphasis to words/phrases in this (and other) responses.

Jim47: Thanks ... I couldn't have said it better ... And to be honest,I couldn't come up with a reply to that ... Akin to responding to the question 'Are you a Democrat or a Republican' with 'I'm right-handed' or 'It's Tuesday'.
