StatGamer - thatis definitely a solicitation to contribute to the Presidential Inaugural Committee, so is not for a campaign.

Yes the email does call it out. I just had no idea about the public vs private funding coverages for the inauguration you mentioned.

So basically my donation would cover someone going to a party to which I was not invited, yes?

Haha! Well, they are doing a lottery for expense paid trips, so you could always hope for that! And, you would be there in, you know....spirit.

They are following the same fundraising model that they did during the campaign -- focusing on small donors as opposed to big corporate or lobbyist contributions. I'm not sure what all the funds go to, but it would include things like the parade, the free concert at the Lincoln memorial, the official b alls (which people have to buy tickets to, so they are self-funded to a degree), and other events like that... Costs associated with the swearing-in ceremony itself is covered by public funds.

They sell tickets to see their b alls? And all these years I've been slipping money into the boots.

I thought most of the inaugural events were open to everyone (even Republicans!).
