Is it just me, or was there a lag in reportsofeffigy and flag-burning for the past six or seven years?

Seemed odd that I read in the news that they burned a Bush effigy in Baghdad, right where that old Hussein statue used to stand. Seems like forever since I've seen them waving and stomping and burning a United States flag over in the Middle East, at least in Iraq.

It's almost like they were afraid we'd stomp back -- but now, not so much.

Weird. I thought they were supposed to ~like~ us, now.

I don't understand your point. They don't like Bush? Of course they don't; that doesn't seem very newsy. If they are free to actively protest in the town square, though, that seems like good news. They should be pushing us out of there as hard as they can and taking back the reins of their own country, so signs of their taking that stance seem positive to me.

I may be off base, but I am thinking that Paul was referring to all hoopla surrounding the election by some of the eh advice members who are no longer with us who kept saying that they wanted a president that other countries would like. That is just my take on his post...nothing but .02...LOL

Perhaps, but Obama isn't President now and won't be for two more months. He has no role in foreign policymaking now and won't until then. Even still, it's going to take time and a lot of work for the U.S. to regain the respect among other nations that it once held. There actually was a slight uptick in the most recently released Pew Global Attitudes Survey, which is attributedto anticipation that the current administration will soon be coming to an end (the survey was taken pre-election, so this was irrespective of who would later be elected the next president).

The war in Iraq was voted on by an overwhelming majority of the U.S.Congress. So if we 'illegally' bombed their country, who's the criminal?

Just wonderin'.

BTW, I'm not a Bush fan nor a fan of the Iraq war.

You lookto internaional laws which we have signed on to and which have very clear rules about invading sovereign nations. The only thing that keep us out of the same international courts of law that we sponsored at Nuremburg is that we are too powerful to be made accountable for waging illegal wars.

Al-qaeda issued a statement condemning Obama. To me, that makes me inclined to admire President-Elect Obama. I now have hope for the next four years and am interested in seeing how Senator Obama handles himself as President Obama.

It is easy for us to sit back and tell the people in charge what they should do and how they should run the country. But I bet the perspective changes once that person starts receiving the daily threat assestments and has to make decisions to safeguard America and her citizens.

And please give it a rest with the illegal war cries. Itis so old and untrue.

Whether a group or individual he's unaffiliated with makes a statement of support, or lack thereof, really shouldn't be a factor.
