You sound like a bunch of sore losers, guys. I know it's a pain to be on the losing side after an election, but surely there's a better way to handle it. How about trying to contribute something positive to the GOP, if you care about it so much? I'd say it needs an overhaul, and a better way to appeal to a broader group of voters.

I don't always agree with raising the minimum wage. Businesses have to foot that bill, do you really think they are going to eat that cost, or just hike up the prices? I'm no expert on it though.

How does that work, the federal government comes out with a base minimum wage and then states are free to go above that? Because I know that different states have different minimum wages based off their costs of living.

Sore losers? Nah. Some of us just thought it'd be fun to give the left a very small taste of how they treated Bush when he was elected. Often times I find that action teaches much better than words do.

As for the GOP, this loss will be good for them in the long run. The voters put them in power in 1994 to do certain things, and they did a few of them for the first few years, at least while they had Newt Gingrich in there to keep people in line. But after that, they started behaving more and more like democrats with their big spending ways, and they also abandoned the principles of small government to political expediency. The GOP knows how to lead a loyal opposition, but they're nearly clueless on what to do with a majorty when they get one. Barack Obama and the democrats did not defeat the GOP; the GOP shot itself in the foot. With a cannon. However, the pubs will now be required to act like small government conservatives. This is a good thing. I'd rather have a principled minority party than an unprincipled majority party. Before Nov 4, we had two unprincipled parties. Now we have one that is unprincipled and one that is principled (principled out of political necessity, perhaps, but principled nonetheless). This will be a good thing in about 2 years, unless Obama can pull a huge rabbit out of his hat where the economy is concerned.

If Obama governs center-ish, the Dems will probably hold the Congress in '10. He can get away with certain entitlement spending (if he doesn't over do it), he can meet with the madman in Iran, and probably pull out of Iraq and be OK politically. If, however, he does like Bill Clinton and passes a retro-active tax increase and some gun control measure similar to the Brady Law, then '10 will be an electoral massacre for the dems like '94 was. If he signs the Fairness Doctrine into law, he'll be courting insurrection, civil uprising, and general civil disobedience.

In a way, I kind of feel bad for Obama. Americans are an impatient people. They're going to expect him to do something about the economy right now. Problem is, things don't get done on a right now basis with the economy. No one can fix it quickly short of God Himself. Obama is going to have people nipping at his heels constantly to get the whole mess cleaned up. The man's got his work cut out for him, no doubt about it.

An increase in min wage has a huge impact. It's pretty selfish and niave to think that you will be making more money on this wage, when in fact, once min wage goes up, so does the costs of producing that good. Which is then turned back on the consumer. On top of the tax increases that will most certainly hurt small business, now your suggesting that the min wage increase is a good thing? What was the tax limit 250K, no wait they really meant 200K, no no no, 150K, wait for it.. 125K. Less than half of what was originally said. Every good lie is at least 10% truth.

Yes; that is correct. The federal minimum wage is a floor; some states then set a higher minimum wage. The federal minimum wage right now is $6.55/hr (for an annual salary of @$13k), and will increase to $7.25/hr. next year (this is because of already passed legislation and would happen no matter what the outcome of Tuesday's election). If we don't increase minimum wage rates, their value erodes further and further due to inflation (essentially, that means that businesses get the benefit of inflation to pay their employees less and less). Before the 3-step increase implemented in 2007. the rate had not increased for 10 years. Even with these increases, the wage is worth less in constant dollars than it was during the 1960s and '70s, so further increases will be needed if we want to make today's rate comparable.

There are, of course, both immediate costs and benefits to raising the minimum wage, and whether you favor or disfavor increases is in part related to one's philosophy of government.

For the last 40 years liberals have really illustrated the level of contempt people can bring themselves to. The terrible and disturbing part about their behavior is their ability to desensitize themselves and inoculate themselves form their own behavior. Liberals believe that because they have good intentions and that their motives are valid, they can appoint themselves as moral judicatures.

Liberals always claim to know exactly what to do as soon as it’s too late. As long as liberals refuse to concede a point, it remains ‘unsettled’, Liberals think they can defeat the truth with loudness. When they don't like an answer they just repeat or rephrase a question in the hopes that at some point they'll hear an answer they approve of, there by making it a substantive response.

Liberals hold others to standards they themselves can't achieve.

Its only a worthy cause if a Liberal approves it. Its only a legitimate argument if Liberals agree with it. Its only intelligent if they can intellectualize it. Its only Legitimate news if they report it. Its only Legal if they sanction it. The Electoral System is fair as long as they win. The court of Law and the US Constitution only works when it favors them. The US is only a legitimate Government while they have power in it.

I don't care what anybody says, as long as I " get to cling to my gun toting, religous, redneck ways" Quote Obama. We shall see which hand basket all of us will be floating down the river in four years from now.

The funny thing is that about 2.2% of the work force is paid minimum wage ... So why then is there a big outcry for an increase in the minimum wage from unions? Why are business owners dead set against increases in minimum wage?

First off ... Many unions have their pay based on a portion so much higher than the minimum wage ... So, if their contract stipulates that their pay is $15/hr higher than the base, increasing the base, thus increases their pay ... But, 50 cents/hr isn't a large deal, one might respond ... However, 50 cents/hr for 50,000 people for 2000 hours/yr leaves us with an increase of $50,000,000 in operating costs which is a pretty chunk of change for no increase in production... And what is better, the business owners, that employ unions, have little control over the employees in the first place, so laying off the unproductive ones for the productive ones is not always an option.

Wow, it is amazing how BS can be propagated by the ignorant.

Fact:
The US economy does better when there is a Democrat in office. This is not due to anything more than the result of making sure that you do not spend more than you make.

http://www.cedarcomm.com/~stevelm1/Revenue_v_Spending.png

Go there. Look at the facts. Every Republican since Nixon has spent more than the government made. Every Democrat since Johnson has brought in more revenue than was spent.

The belief that Democrat are the big spenders and fiscally irresponsible is in truth a result of propaganda from the ultra rich that make their billions by ripping off the American people after putting their stooges in power.
If you make less than 150,000 a year you are a victim and if you support their policies you are a willing victim.
If you make more than a million a year and support their policies, I only have one thing to say to you, "Stop stealing my children's future and GFY!"

I also think it is time for people to stop saying things like "The Intellectual Elite" like it is a bad thing. This is something only dumb, ignorant people do. I do not want to depend on some average plumber dumbass to run my country. I want the guy in charge to be smarter than me. Why wouldn't I do the job myself if I didn't think a smarter person could do it better?
