I also like classical and metal. I have symphony and opera subscriptions in multiple cities and I also follow Slipknot and other bands. Cradle of Filth produced one CD accompanied by a full orchestra.

Also, Rene Pape recorded a RAMMSTEIN song. There are a lot of us who enjoy both metal and classical/opera.

[*]I love classical music - especially violin and cello concertos - soulful sounds. I majored in voice and piano in college. Love symphonies, operas etc... you name it. Even some Gregorian chants are beautiful to listen to.[/list]

I sing opera professionally and have a very niched musical taste.

For instance: Russian liturgical chant. I don't know anyone else who enjoys this music outside of the Russian Orthodox Church (of which I am not a member) and one of my music history teachers from college.

Outside of that, I love Russian piano concerti (Rach. no.2 being my favorite), Almost anything Mozart and Verdi, and Brahm's choral works. There are others, but with 1000 years of polyphony to draw upon, the list could go on for ages.

No. 2? Really? Surprising. I've never heard of anyone who prefers No. 2 over No. 3, myself included.

I have two years as a trained classical guitarist.

I also really enjoy listening to classic music like Joseph Haydn, Ludwig van Beethoven, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Antonio Vivaldi, George Frideric Handel, Johann Sebastian Bach, Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, Frédéric Chopin, and Wilhelm Richard Wagner

I'm another fan of both rock and classical as well; although my tastes tend more to the Baroque end of the spectrum, and to more ancient music. Glad to discover I am not the only fan of Gregorian chant! I find it helpful for sermon writing.

Classically-trained musician. My primary instruments were violin, clarinet, and trumpet. Some of my favorite composers are Mozart, J.S. Bach, Chopin, Rossini, Tchaikowsky, and Beethoven. Would love to get back to playing music, but I've had to put it on hold to pursue my career.

Majored in flute in college. Currently pursuing a masters of music with a speciality in music ed. Next course up is theory--can't wait for history.

I have a special place in my heart for Romantic period pianists (Brahms and Chopin) as well as the art songs of 19th century Germany. Schumann is included among my favorite song composers. Is it fair to pick favorites? I can list hundreds of composers who have influenced me, but...how can I whittle the list to few?

I always believed that Bach was the godfather of all things modern, especially improvisational music. When I was younger, I sought to find out "who else" there was in composition besides, Bach, Mozart, Beethoven and Brahms. As I got older, I started to understand.

I think genius is only appreciated through time and experience. Will I ever get it completely? Probably not, but I hope to get close before I'm dead.

What "classical" composers and musicians (for that matter, what ALL composers and musicians) seek to express through music is that which only humans can express: what it is to be human in the first place. I'm delighted to know that it brings so much joy to so many.
