There's nothing like music and movement to de-stress after work ... and get the endorphins going. So I go to the gym with my iPodand use the elliptical or treadmill -- or I walk outside. Well, I decided it's time to step up the pace, but most of my musical preferences tend to be a tad slow.

Would love some ideas of songs to help me do this. I tend to like acoustic music -- singer/songwriter types, but here are a few musicians/bands/singers I like -- just to give you an idea of my musical preferences:
Sarah Mc Lachlan, Alanis Morisette, Lifehouse, Bonnie Raitt, KD Lang, Indigo Girls, Sara Bareilles,Tift Merritt, Dar Williams, Shawn Colvin, Emmylou Harris, Patty Griffin, Kathleen Edwards, Lynn Miles, KT Tunstall, Neko Case, Over the Rhine, Paula Cole, Matt Nathanson, John Mayer, Simon & Garfunkel, Neil Young, Van Morrison, Jackson Browne ...

You get the gist. Are there some new artists I should listen to that aren't on this list? Are there songs by these musicians you think would be good songs for working out? (Besides Flashdance!)
What doyou listen to for motivation and inspiration?

You need uptempo stuff. Believe it or not try the Foo Fighters, Fall Out Boy, Nickelback and Incubus. Those bands have worked for me because most of their music is uptempo enough to keep you in the aerobic training zone. If that music is too young for you, try some good old fashioned Rolling Stones and Aerosmith. I work out at Equinox. That gym has put some workout mixes onto the I-Tunes website. I think they are called Equinox mixes. some of them are pretty good. You might also want to consider buying a Polar heartrate monitor. Most cardio equipment found in most gyms are compatible. Good luck with your work outs.

Hot Chip's "Ready for the Floor" is an excellent song right now to get you movin' and groovin'.

Morrison's "Caravan" is a good song to move to.

Browne's "Somebody's Baby" and "Tender is the Night" are good, too.

Try John Butler Trio - Funky Tonight gets me running faster, also you may want to check out Arcade Fire "Keep the Car Running", The Format "The First Single", Maroon 5 "Can't Stop", if you like the Offspring, "Walla Walla", and about 115 more tracks if you want to borrow my ipod. And if you change it up and ride the bike, "Ride" by G.Love is always a good choice!

Jumping in late but have to add some of my faves. Great Big Sea, Gaelic Storm, Oakhurst, Barenaked Ladies, and Nickelback all have great, upbeat songs. Oakhurst is indie so you'll have to order their CD via their website or MySpace page.

Donna Summers' "mistaken Identity" album has a beat that works for me with machines. Talking heads "Stop making sense' has a fairly consistent driving beat for my feet on the treadmill.
