A lot of people talk about how sexual and explicit music and lyrics have become but has music really changed that much? Yea? Nay? What say you?
Well, here where I live (in da GET-toe) it seems to have gotten a bit more explicit, and much louder. Very efficient class-E/F audio amplifiers have made possible rap-mobiles in the multi-kilowatt range, and Loctited lug nuts are an absolute necessity; heck, I often see my glassware dancin-ta-da-beat -- Fuhgeddaboudit! Lyrically, it's provided me the opportunity to become fluently-profanic in a couple dozen languages .

Anyway...

My music hasn't changed much though; most of it doesn't have lyrics .

Yes, but you are still a part of Gen X like me and I think the music of the 80's and 90's is way bettter than most of what's out there today. I love the Classic Rock of the 70's and 80's! Do artist really play real instruments anymore or is all music made virtually on peoples computers now?
I think I'm really the tail end of the Baby Boomers, not Gen X, though thank you for making me feel younger today!

As for artists really playing instruments, we had lots of artists who did not play their own music in the 60s, 70s and 80s, too. I was married to a musician, so I am fully aware of some people's opinion of how if the main performer of the group doesn't also play an instrument or write their own songs, the whole group is doo-doo. I don't buy it. I enjoyed The Monkees and The Archies just as much as any "real" band.

I like Christina Perri a lot better than I late Katey Perry. And let's not get started on Lady Ga Ga!
I like Christina Perri, like Katey Perry, but LOVE Lady GaGa. Her recent Monster Ball tour ranks right up there in the top 2 concerts I've ever seen, the other being the Rolling Stones on their Steel Wheels tour. She is a true entertainer, has a helluva voice, AND she plays a mean guitar and piano. She's a very smart woman and is going to be around for a long time. I have a lot of respect for Lady GaGa.

Okay, cool. I'll have to give Lady GaGa another listen. I don't listen to a whole lot of Pop. I mostly listen to Country, love really old Country, and Classic Rock like Yes, Boston, Kansas, the Eagles and stuff like that.

Actually, I mostly listen to country, too. But not old country, only the newer stuff. I have learned to appreciate a lot of the music my daughter and her friends listen to (and some of them like my country music, too!)

The Monkees are playing here tomorrow night! I'd sure like to see them, but no dates at the moment and I don't think my daughter would willingly go along to that one with me. (I've attended shows on my own before, but not feeling like it this weekend.)

Oh, funny, they just played here at the Minnesota Zoo last night and tonight. You must be next on their stop. I didn't hear about the concert or I would have gone. You should go WW, the reviews of their show were really good. They played with lots of energy and Davy Jones still sounds really good. He's still so cute too.
