Okay I admit it. I live in Hawaii and am listening to country. There are some great performers in country right now. Really like Miranda Lambert, Lady Antebella, and Kenny Chesney to name a few.

Little correction... Lady Antebellum, not Lady Antebella. Love them by the way! I'm a country fan too, or maybe I should say new country. Never did care for the old boom chang chang kind of country.

Yes, alot of good things come straight out of Middle America.

But I think a person living in Hawaii should listen to Hawaiian music too...when they're driving through the pineapple and cane fields...and even up high amongst the eucalyptus.

Oops yes...meant Lady Antebellum. Thanks for the correction.

I am not into Hawaiian music much. Yes I know I should be, but not my cup of tea. Thankfully we have a new really good country station here.

See, the funny thing is that I am right in step with you socio-politically/culturally, but I DO like what you would probably call/label "country music", although the others above would say, "what the hell is THAT??" for the most part, at least.

I CANNOT STAND the top 40 Smashville/Nashvegas crap, but I LOVE the less popular/populist (sometimes not even known, or very well known outside of Tejas) artists who play a blend/mix of; Americana, alt-country, folk, blues, Tex-Mex, rockabilly, singer-songwriter type music.

I sometimes wish I lived in Austin, or surrounds (as long as it was an open, tolerant, not too extreme right wing community).

I agree 100%, I hate that Nashville garbage. I'm rockin' out to some Bleu Edmondson and I'm fixin' to listen to Corpus Christi Bay by REK. I went to school at Texas Tech, and until a year ago lived in Odessa, so I've listened to the Texas Country bands for a while now.

Some of my recent favorites are Kevin Fowler, Roger Creager, and Cory Morrow, who I have all met personally.

Try Saltwater Cowboy by Brian Milson, it's like Kenny Chesney, but way better. You'll have to google it though, his CD's isn't in most music stores.

I dislike music snobs of all sorts. I listen to today's pop & hip hop, some rap, "oldies," "classic rock," adult contemporary, and new country. And lots of things that don't really have a category. Love bits of all of it, but currently really prefer the country music.

To those who "hate" country, it really is no different than the "southern rock" of the 70s.

That's alright, I mainly LIKE older country music. I do like some of the NEWER artists, but as soon as I heard country artists including rap, you lose me. I really like listening to a singer with just an acoustic guitar best.

Suzie PS, I agree with WW402, that todays country is almost exactly like southern rock of the 70's.
