I have a question for you, how come I remind everyone of their exes. Does this mean I have a problem I haven't identified yet?

I want to know, because I can't even get a one night stand because, according other people, I'm too aggressive and blunt for my own good.
Only because you asked......

My ex-husband was a musician and a huge music snob. Unless the artist wrote his own music and played his own instruments he considered it garbage. Now, I liked some of the same music he did (and/or grew accustomed to it over time), but he could not tolerate a lot of the music I liked. Through his comments he would subtly make me feel stupid for liking something he deemed "less than." It wasn't until after our divorce that I really felt free to listen to whatever I wanted instead of whatever he deemed good music.

Your attitude about music comes through loud and clear in how you write about it (not necessarily a bad thing), and in a way that implies your tastes are superior to others (umm, yeah, a bad thing). There is an art to expressing yourself and your opinions without being condescending to the opinions of others.

One of my deal breakers these days is I will not date musicians, and any hint of a music snob will have me turn my heels and walk the other way. Been there, done that.

I've never met you so I really can't say about the rest of you, but if other people who do know you have told you you're too aggressive and blunt for your own good, you might want to listen to them and work on that. It is rare that people will tell someone something like that (even good friends), and when they do it's usually the truth.

To WW 402: I'm sorry if I hurt anyone's feelings, but speaking on a record is alot different from rap. And the newer "music" I heard the other day was rap. Beside's there's a world of difference between what J.Cash did and any "rap" artist. It's like comparing an orange to a giraffe.
No feelings hurt at all! The radio station here played an "evolution" of spoken word to rap within country songs a week or two ago. Snippets of several songs over the past few decades. It was very interesting and a lot more similar than you think if you listen to them together. Today's spoken word/rap within the song is mainly just faster than it was in Johnny Cash's day. It's an evolution of the sound. If a genre doesn't look for new ways to express its sound, it can get stagnant.

Doesn't mean everyone has to like it. I do appreciate the separate talent it takes to do that as opposed to just singing, though.

I like the concept but don't like your taste music. I personally think that the influences that are lacking in country music now are western swing and spanish music.

George strait and Willie Nelson used to play some really good western swing, and to quote a song, "once you're down texas, Bob wills is still the king."

I get crazy looks for this, but to me, norteno music is country music with an accordian. For example, George Strait did a cover of El Rey, originally sung by Vincente Fernandez, and Roger Creager a local country singer in Texas sings a cover of Rancho Grande. Also, Dwight Yoakum features Flaco Jimenez in Streets of Bakersfield and Buenas Noches from a Lonely Room.

Better yet, the country music hall of fame should get their act together and induct Freddy Fender into the hall of fame. Before the next tear drop falls and wasted days and wasted nights are classic country songs in my opinion, and he would be the first Hispanic inducted into the hall of fame.

Country music has been influenced by eastern and corporate interest for too long when all they needed was some home grown texas values, but that opinion is coming from a Texan, so take it for what it is.

I could not agree with you more!!
But what is most shocking is the news that Freddy Fender is not yet in the Hall Of Fame!
WHAT is wrong with those people??!! Bigotry??
Now I know why I just CANNOT STAND most of the ClearChannel, top 40, poppy, NashVegas, Smashville drek, and yes, SORRY but if that makes me a "music snob" then so be it!!!
(I'm NOT telling anyone they cannot/should not listen to it, just that I refuse to. )

Anyway, I am also a fan of Flaco Jimenez, and feel that he is the great grand master of the 'squeeze box', some very exceptional other Zydecajun, and Norteno players notwithstanding.

I'm gonna take a wild guess here and take for granted that you are also a big Doug Sahm/Texas Tornados fan as well?
(Talk about an artist who mixed a multitude of styles/genres at will, and with ease! )

Flaco's playing on all of Doug's ventures/projects (as well as his own and others') was/is exemplary!!

BTW; I took A LOT of heat for having "Bob Wills And His Texas Playboys For The Last Time" album (in vinyl of course, it was 1976 after all) in my collection, even though I was attending the University Of Arizona at the time of the 'dissing'.

I also attended at least four Asleep At The Wheel shows (Chris O'Connor was still in the band then, and sounded GREAT!!), in small clubs/honky tonks while there.

That's funny. The first time I heard "Dirt Road Anthem" is the first time I ever really connected with country. That was probably only 3 months ago...and now I listen to mostly country

I think the rap in country makes it more accessible to people who think country isn't...cool (for lack of a better word). My hip-hop/underground music loving little brother even likes "Dirt Road Anthem" it's shocking

Actually, several of Johnny Cash's songs were like rap... spoken word to the music. Just listen to "A Boy Named Sue" again. Toby Keith's "I Wanna Talk About Me" from 2001, too. It is not a new phenomena.

I have grown to really appreciate the country-rap. Just try to sing along with Jason Aldean on Dirt Road Anthem. Not nearly as easy as it sounds. It really does take talent to do that.

I always like when artists of one genre reach out and incorporate another genre in their music. Sugarland took a lot of flack for incorporating reggae into "Stuck Like Glue." I think it adds a lot to the song. Mixing things up is how the sound grows and evolves.
I hadn't read through everything before I wrote a reply- Exactly! When music crosses genres, it makes it more accessible and gives it an edge. I love "Stuck Like Glue"...

All I can go by is what you've written so far on here. Noone could ever say you were wishywashy. Might you be lacking abit of TACT? I'm the same way. I have no idea what you need to do to change that, as I'm 54, and I haven't mellowed yet. One good thing though, everyone knows where you stand on things.

Suzie
Thanks for the advice. I have actually mellowed quite a bit since college, which is really scary when you think about how I act now, but I always have had a rebellious streak. I'm hoping to meet someone my age who is as "outgoing" as I am, but I may have to wait a while.

I love the Texas Tornados, they are the real deal when it comes to authentic Texas music. That's tejano, norteno, country, and rock music all rolled into one. I saw them play about a year ago at the Cactus Theater in Lubbock and got to have my picture taken with the band after the show, although it was with someone else's camera and I never got a copy of the photo.

I also saw Asleep at the Wheel a couple years back when I lived in the Midland/Odessa area. They played at an outdoor concert in downtown Midland, that was a lot fun as well.

I wish I still lived in Texas, but my job has me moving around a lot, so now I am in Artesia, NM, which secretly wants to be part of Texas, but won't admit it.
