Whatever the time period there have always been songs about love and the sometimes inevitable break up. So what are your favorite break up songs? It can be anything, hell if you know a plainchant that has to do with break up add it to the list! My favorite:

Jim Croce -- Operator (or that's not the way it feels)

YouTube - Everly Brothers - All I have to do is dream + Cathy's Clown - Mixx

Circa 1959 or so

Cathys Clown is the song I was referring to but the mix of the 2 songs is great

I love this! This is great! Now I have a bigger library of music to listen to next time I break up or am dumped! That's the point, finding music that soothes the senses when we are at our worst! Keep it coming fellow e-harmony posters, really it is therapeutic!

Everly Brothers are amazing! I would listen to both songs were I heartbroken! The first to remind me of what I lost and long for, the second to move on!

Seether's CD Finding Beauty In Negative Spaces is filled with ticked off songs - the whole frickin' CD - but "Breakdown" is really appropriate after a breakup

Okay, Killswitch Engage's "My Curse", too. Good stuff.

If you want to go old school, Ella Fitzgerald's version of "Bewitched, Bothered And Bewildered" is pretty cool, too.

All time favorite... Indoor Fireworks - Elvis Costello

Angry empowered mode... Harden my Heart - Quarterflash

Angry, Vengeful, a bit dangerous mode... I Used to Love Her, But I Had to Kill Her - Guns N Roses ( I'm just sayin! )
