There's a radio station in L.A. that plays Christmas music for 2 months straight.

Many stores are already playing Christmas songs.

Do you revel in holiday music, or....not so much?

If you like it, what are your favorites?

Ought to be limited by federal mandate to Dec 20-25.

Except if there was a Grateful Dead Holiday album, that would be different.

Hearing holiday music from just after Halloween is wacky making

IMHO of course.

I agree with RoxyRedhead. I don't even think Christmas music to at least 5 days before Christmas. I have a couple of CD's of Celtic Christmas music and a cassette, called "Smoky Mountain Christmas" which has most of the Christmas standards done as bluegrass instrumentals. They're about the only ones I play.

Aaaarrrggghhhh!!! I want to like Christmas music but I find it impossible to tolerate when they start playing it 24/7 on a couple of the radio stations in my area the DAY BEFORE HALLOWEEN!!!

If I'm scanning on my car radio and I stop on one of the offending stations, I can't hit that scan button again fast enough. I don't want to hear it until at least mid December!

Jerry, I have the Smoky Mountain Christmas cd as well and it's one of my favorites, along with a few others that I listen to the last week or two before Christmas, but longer than that? NO THANKS!

I used to agree with everyone else that Christmas music should be reserved until immediately before Christmas. Last year a radio station in a town I visit often with work started playing Christmas music a week or two before Thanksgiving out of the blue.

For some reason (I think some of it had to do with all the bad news about the economy and some other things going on in my life) I actually enjoyed it. It definitely put me in the holiday frame of mind.

As for my favorites - that is hard to say. Love a lot of the old classics from Bing and Nat and of course Eartha Kitt's "Santa Baby".

Picking the ones I can't stand is easy. Any Christmas music by Bruce Springsteen, songs about a hippopotamus, or The Little Drummer Boy top the list.

Have to say I enjoy Bob Seegar's cover of Little Drummer Boy, though.

The thing with the canned music in stores is that once the season hits, it's ALL Christmas music. The songs that seem to be chosen for the playlists are quite limited and what you end up with is 429 versions of about 11 songs. That's what the crazy maker is for me. Rudolph the Rednosed Reindeer bugs me especially.

There is an unusual loathing that rises in me when the "electronica" or whatever it is, mixes of the old, old stuff (Bing Crosby, Ella Fitzgerald, etc.) come on. Heinous.

If they would mix up the regular everyday pop 40 with the Christmas stuff, it would be so much easier to tolerate.

I just got Sting's Christmas CD - very very nice. Rustic, acoustic, all cozy, candlelight and cedar boughs

There is a station here in Denver (KOSI 101.1) that is in an all-Christmas format right now, and I think it probably started a week ago or so, like many of you have mentioned. I think they're all probably owned by the same broadcasting company (Entercom). Anyway...I LOVE it when they go to that format. Now don't get me wrong, I don't listen to it 24/7, but I love knowing that I can hear it in the car anytime I want for the next 5 or so weeks.

I work at the mall, and they started playing Christmas music out in the mall about a week ago. It puts me in the holiday mood, and gives me such a warm feeling. IMO, it's hard to be sad or depressed when there's Christmas music playing, and there's a beautiful holiday season to anticipate!

Everybody hates Drummer Boy ... why is that? It's one of my more favorite xmas songs.

I am not Christian but I love Christmas music.

I love it. One of our local stations starts 24/7 Christmas music on Thanksgiving Day and continues through Christmas Day. My work requires me to be in the car a lot and I listen while I'm driving.

My very favorite is Brenda Lee's "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree". I also like Wynona & Kenny Rogers' version of "Mary, Did You Know". There are lots of others I love, too.
