Are you like me (listen to the music you love over and over, and as you find new stuff you like add it to the list of stuff you listen to over and over - what I'm calling a "nostalgist" - or are you an explorer, ALWAYS looking for new tunes, only going back to listen to old favorites once in a while?

I guess I'm a "nostalgist" I like certain types of music and I will add new tunes/CD's every so often within those types. Still there's a core of music I like to listen to and certain CD's get repeated play. There are certain songs I'll put on as I leave on a road trip, or a date, an outing with friends. For the last fifteen years, at the end of my road trip to my vacation. It's become a superstition/tradition. I cue up the same song, turn the volume on my radio up full, and cruise down the last 10 miles of dirt road with the bag pipes wailing.

I am actually both. Most people consider me to be a nostalgist because I still go to see the bands I listened to in the 80s over and over, but I am always seeking new music. I have had American music covered for some time now so I branched out - worldwide. Some music I discover by chance ... if I am on an international flight, I listen to the piped-in music. This was before youtube really took off. Now with youtube, I am always clicking different links ... music from Finland, Lebanon, India, Japan ... it's incredible how much is out there. Some of these artists are very popular, but we never even heard of them in the U.S.

I'm a bit of both as well. As comfortable listening to new indie artists as to classic rock - simply depends on the mood and situation. There's always something new and innovative going on if you take the time to find out - but it's also fun to keep a mental catalog and listen to older stuff as well - from the vaults of where it all began.
