In your opinion, who is / are the best musican/band(s) that no one's ever heard of?

My favorite unknown artist is Eva Cassidy. Although she is no longer with us (she died of cancer in her mid-30s), she had the voice of an angel. She has a good sized fan base even to this day, yet any time I tell someone about her, they've never heard of her.

Here is a link to her cover of Imagine, which is beautiful enough to bring tears:

(warning, there is some imagery which may disturb some viewers in this video: images from September 11th, etc).

Here is more from her:

Eva covering Time After Time by Cyndi Lauper:

Lots more of her on YouTube....hope you enjoy her work as much as I do! And I'm looking forward to hearing about who you think I and everyone else should know about!

I keep trying to tell people about Joe Purdy, but I get looked at like I have 3 heads.

Ms. Cassidy has a nice voice.

Well, here's his website for starters. The story I heard was that he was a school teacher and started doing the folk/singer-songwriter thing for fun and that developed into a full blown career. He has 10 or 11 albums out now and typically releases a new one every year. I love them all, but if you're just starting out, I'd take Take My Blanket and Go or You Can Tell Georgia.

Songs you may already know from Joe:
and a live one ...

I really enjoy Soul Coughing. I'm not sure how many people might have heard of them so I don't know how "unknown" they are, but I don't think they ever had a huge following.

They might seem a bit strange, but they'll grow on you.

I'd heard and liked Can't Get It Right Today, but didn't know who the artist was. Now I know.
