For any eharmony member who has checked out my profile...I'm DEFINITELY a fan of Soundtracks and Film Scores!

I have several favorite film composers....John Williams, Hans J. Salter, Leigh Harline, Elmer Bernstein...and mylist could go on and on!

Just out of curiosity, do YOU have a particular soundtrack or film score that you're fond of? Or listen to A LOT?

Hi argytunes.

Some of my favorites are: Dances With Wolves, Dinosaur, The Last Samurai, Braveheart...all very beautifully orchestrated. I'm not familiar with the composers you listed; I will check them out. However, I do have a classical guitar cd by John Williams...same one??

Have a great day.

Hi Simplegirl!

Those are all wonderful scores...particularly DANCES WITH WOLVES.

John Williams (the guitarist) and John Williams (the composer)...I think are 2 different artists who share the same name? Reason being....I've seen the CD covers with John Williams, the guitarist, and he looks completely different from John Williams, the composer. [What many TV music buffs don't realize is that John Williams, the composer wrote a lot of TV Themes as JOHNNY WILLIAMS back in the 50s and early 60s].

Leigh Harline did a lot of composing for Walt Disney...along with Ned Washington. Probably their most famous collaboration was "When You Wish Upon A Star" (for Pinocchio) and the score for BAMBI! I actually love the music he wrote for a Tony Randall film: "The 7 Faces of Dr. Lao!"

Hans J. Salter and Charlie Previn were responsible for most of the music for the majority ofthe original Frankenstein, Dracula, Sherlock Holmesand other Universal sequels. These are actually available on CD...and they're fun to listen to.

What can you say about Elmer Bernstein? THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN (with the lateSteve McQueen)immediately comes to mind. But he haswritten so many other film scores thateharmony members would need to do a complete search on google!

Hope you have a great day as well?

I'm completely in love with the soundtrack to THE LAST OF THE MOHICANS (the parts written by Randy Edelman). The dramatic pieces are perfect for working under deadline in the office and the entire score is my favorite music to listen to when setting off on a camping trip.

Another favorite is the soundtrack to LITTLE WOMEN (Thomas Newman, Gabriel Byrne). I can't even think about baking or decorating for Christmas without that soundtrack going.

marthak...

Thomas Newman is an awesome composer...even though he's not a household name like John Williams, John Barry or Alan Sylvestri (the latter gave us plenty of scores including BACK TO THE FUTURE, THE BODYGUARD, & WHO FRAMED ROGER RABBIT).

I know a lot of Thomas Newman material has been released on the Varese Sarabande CD label.

Newman's music is excellent!

I'll chime in with the popular tastes: I love John Williams. Maybe it's just because he seems to copy composers that I also enjoy (Dvorak, for instance: Star Wars and New World Symphony are almost indistinguishable stylistically).

I'm obsessively listening to Peter Gabriel right now; CD soundtrack from The Last Temptation of Christ (and of course, my breakup album, "Us"). My steeringwheel is my drum and I use my sticks as I drive (and drink my coffee, and shift gears, and wonder why I'm late to work again...).

I fell in love with the soundtrack to Chocolat, which features some wonderful Django Rhinehart (probably spelled that wrong). The soundtrack to Passionada is also very good, with an emphasis on Portugese fado singers - an amazingly evocative genre, even if you don't understand a word of Portugese! And a third one that's very good is the soundtrack to Frida, with both traditional Mexican and modern interpretations.

Of course, there's always Lawrence of Arabia, or at least the symphonic suite. hmm, can we count film adaptations of Broadway shows? Don't have time to list all those.
