My second job is in a large retail store, and the canned music drives me nutz. The canned Christmas music makes me want to kill myself. There's this one electronica remix of Bing Crosby's White Christmas that is profoundly ludicrous.

Last year i didn't even want to think about playing Christmas music at home, but one day i opened up my Christmas music file and rediscovered some exquisite pieces. A couple of albums i'm looking forward to turning on in December:

Season's Serenade - classical compilation put out by Starbucks a few years ago.

Winter's Harp - Lori Papajohn, harpist from Vancouver. i saw her Winter's Harp concert last year - just beautiful in every way.

christmas - Bruce Cockburn; unique "Canadian flavour".

A Charlie Brown Christmas - Vince Guaraldi Trio. i'll forgive the canned tracks for including this, even if it does cheapen the memories of some of the Best Days of My Life.

There are more; but i haven't gotten my Christmas things out yet. What'll you be spinning at Christmas?

Keeping sanity at Christmas? Is that even possible?! lol What with the unnatural suppression of everyone's frustration, the Australian heat and general rudeness of every around ... I am SO glad Christmas Day and Boxing Day are Public Holidays. I get a breather!

I usually haul out the Bing Crosby album, I love White Christmas ... not that I have ever experienced one! Otherwise I like Christmas Carols, a mix of traditional and current. My favourites are O Come All Ye Faithful and I think it's called Jingle Bell Rock. The first time I heard it was on that Arnie movie where he was trying to get the toy for his kid.

So if you're getting a breather, as you say, on Christmas and Boxing Day because they are public holidays, meri, can i safely assume that you work in retail? (Where else are you going to find the unnatural suppression of frustration and general rudeness of everyone around?)

Hey Vaire - I work in the Telecommunications Industry and it's insane each December. People losing their phones. People having their phones stolen. People complaining about it taking to long to answer their call. People upset about their bill. I feel so sorry for our Retail Staff - they would be exhausted by the end of Christmas. Although I get Boxing Day off as well, our Retail Staff don't for the most part. One day of rest and then back in for the post-Christmas Day sales.
