I have to say this was hands down the best Batman of them all. I never thought I would end up saying this but Heath Ledger played a better Joker then Jack Nickolson did. Jack is a phenominal actor and for someone to play a charecture he did and actually do it better says a lot. Don't get me wrong there will never be another saying like "Have you ever danced with the devil in the pale moon light." But that whole lip smacking tongue thing Heath did through out the whole movie was very creepy.
Yes, Nicholson's quote is iconic. That Heath did a better Joker than Jack Nicholson is saying so much... very subtle, not at all cartoony. Just a wonderfully-written character and supremely well acted out.

The movie as a whole was good. i still have reservations about how much i like Christian Bale as Batman (but i love him as a person entirely -drool- ...) And i struggled to appreciate the 2-face subplot. It wasn't a seamless inclusion, not developped at all. Having Sandman and whatever else in the beginning felt the same to me.

But, back to the OP, the quandaries that the movie presents are worthy. The mindless entertainment that has overtaken the world of film was due for a reprieve.

Here's a bit of armchair psychology

The three main characters can be understood by the way they make the choices

The Batman = order (core values, moral, won't kill)

The Joker = chaos (existence is to destroy structure/integrity)

Harvey Dent = randomness (flip of a coin)
Ah, i like the way you put that, dimension. It just left me wanting with how it unfolded onscreen.

I think both Jack and Heath brought their Jokers to life in their own ways. I loved them both.

What the Dark KNight made me think of...I have GOT to quit lending out my DVD's. The better the movie, the greater the chance I won't get them back.

I can't remember who I lent Speed Racer to either.
