It's that time of year again and with Halloween just around the corner I think we should be bringing all the awesome/funny/ridiculous/gory/slasher films to light!

New releases, old school, B-movie, whatever, what's your fav?!

Always been a Nightmare on Elm Street girl myself (except 2).

Yes, I like the Halloween remakes, I liked the light that Rob Zombie brought to the films and the character of Michael Myers.

Evil Dead 2 is one of my all time favs!

Just saw Scream 4 and, well, I really don't know what I think. Seemed typical.

Which ones do like to snuggle up with a honey on the couch with?

I just saw The Thing. It was horrifying, but eerily similar to the Alien series. I guess Alien was released so long ago that people no longer remember it.

Ha! I didn't even know they remade it. I was about to ask "didn't they make that in the 80's?" so I looked it up.

There is a classic The Thing with Kirt Russell from '82, Alien was released in '79. I guess it didn't cause a huge stir then so why not? But I honestly don't know many people that aren't aware of the Aliens franchise.

Maybe I just don't want to know these people

Hmm...

Drag Me To Hell - Top date movie! Most horror films these days have too much blood/gore for dates. This one bravely shies away from those while still having some great surprises.

The Devil's Rejects, Saw, Hostel, Audition, The Human Centipede - These are "torture" films probably best watched alone. But copious blood and gore does not to me disqualify a movie from being good! These are all very unique and unusual films.

Aliens, 28 Days Later, Dawn of the Dead (2004) - These are a action horror--not that scary, but fun.

Night of the Living Dead (1968), Dawn of the Dead (1978) - It's fascinating how different two "takes" of the same story can be! These are social commentary but helluva good stories too.

Dracula (1992), Nosferatu (1922). No "Dracula" movie captures the depth of the novel--read it if you can. The 1992 version is a good love story for a date. The 1922 version is a treat. It's amazing how well a 100-year old silent film holds up!

Halloween I, Halloween II, The Fog, Prince of Darkness, The Thing - The stories behind these sound lame if you explain them, but John Carpenter does a wonderful job bringing them to life.

Hellraiser, Candyman, Midnight Meat Train - Clive Barker's concept of horror focuses on the twisted. Most of it's too graphic to even be shown on screen, so read the books if you can.

The Shining, Cujo, Pet Semetary, The Mist, The Stand, Carrie - Stephen King's brand of horror usually involves memorable characters, often children, and epic story arcs. The Mist is disturbing.

Nightmare on Elm Street, Wes Craven's New Nightmare, Screem Last House on the Left, The Hills Have Eyes - Craven frequently questions what's real and what's not. Although his other works are also quite effective films.

Halloween III: Season of the Witch - An unusual story with no Michael Myers, no witches, and a jingle you won't forget!

Shaun of the Dead - A hillarious take on zombiedom!

Scream - If you're a horror fan, you'll appreciate the satire.

May - A fine film with ideas for those socially awkward at dating.

Cube, Event Horizon - Good sci-fi/horror mixes.

Ginger Snaps, Fright Night, Lost Boys, Harry Potter - Good tamer fare suitable even for children of some ages.

Friday the 13th - The most successful horror franchise of all time? They didn't age well, probably due to so many clones.

The Wicker Man - GOOD. Don't bother with the remake.

The Birds - Hitchcock! Filmed near my home.

The Devil's Backbone, Let the Right One In - From overseas.

Poltergeist, The Haunting, The Fly (1986), The Ruins, Invasion of the Body Snatches, Jaws, The Howling, Silence of the Lambs, Cabin Fever, Phantasm, Rosemary's Baby, The Exorcist, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Alien, Psycho, Army of Darkness, Evil Dead, The Others, The Sixth Sense, I Spit On Your Grave - Miscellany that must be named.

I love, love Rob Zombie's The Devil's Rejects--it's amazing the sort of people he has you rooting for in the end. But I wish he'd left Halloween. I empathized more with the Strode family when they were suburban American and not those types. And... c'mon, how can you compare to the awesome casting of Jamie Lee Curtis and Donald Pleasance?

I'll take "Drag Me To Hell" on an early date (to get her jumping closer) and "Brahm's Stoker's Dracula" on a later date. If I never want to see her again, maybe "The Human Centipede".

An hour wandering in a corn field tonight with a fickering flashlight reminded me of Children of the Corn.

For the kids section: Labrynth, Coraline, The Nightmare before Christmas, The Corpse's Bride, Monster House, Monsters Inc., Something Wicked This Way Comes, The Goonies, It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown, Igor and maybe Beetlejuice & Gremlins. Scholastic also makes an awesome DVD set that retells 15 award-winning Halloween stories like "The Very Brave Witch" and "A Dark, Dark Tale"!

My boyfriend took his son to see Paranormal Activity 3. It sounded horrifying. I don't plan to watch, but aficionados might enjoy it. It's great when sequels make the grade.

A Nightmare On Elm Street came out when I was in Jr. High. The name of my school was Elm Street Jr. High. I remember sitting in Social Studies class, where I could see the local movie theater from the 3rd floor window. We had a big test that day, and I looked out the window to see the marquee: Now Playing - A Nightmare On Elm Street!

Then there was the time my siblings and I went to the same theater to see Maximum Overdrive. For those of you not familiar with the movie, it tells the story of some mysterious comet that comes near Earth's orbit, and causes all kinds of electronic equipment and vehicles and appliances and things like that to "come alive" and terrorize the people. (Yeah... I am ashamed to admit that we actually paid money to see this in the theater...) It was based on a Stephen King story.

Anyway, the action centers around these people trapped inside this truck stop diner (Emilio Estevez stars!) and all these trucks and semis come to gas up - and threaten the people if they don't help them. (Again... yes, we paid money to see this!) One of the trucks has this really scary green clown face on the front (it is the delivery truck for an amusement park or something) and it's like the "head truck".

Well, the movie ended, and we were walking home from the theater - in broad daylight, no less - when all of a sudden this 18-wheeler comes driving around the corner - A GREEN SEMI!!! "Aaaauuugghh!" We never ran home so fast!

I still chuckle whenever I see that movie on cable...

If I never want to see her again, maybe "The Human Centipede".
Bahahahahaha!

I have never seen that movie, but the radio show I listen to in the morning has a bunch of guys (and one girl) just talking about whatever and interviewing celebrities (and pseudo-celebrities) and playing on air games for prizes with people who call in.

About a year or so ago, one of the guys started talking about this new movie called "The Human Centipede". He was so fascinated with it that he arranged to have the producer/director/writer on the show for an interview. He's some weird German guy. They have interviewed him like 5 times - and they just had him on again a couple of weeks ago before the premiere of "The Human Centipede 2". He said he's currently working on a trilogy.
