Has anyone seen a wonderful documentary called the Fog of War? It features Robert McNamara, Secretary of Defense during the Vietnam era. It begins during WWI and lays a historical backgroud for some our decision making and variables we had no control over. Robert McNamera is very humble, and moving and in hindsight really seems to regret alot of his involvement. He is now president of the World Bank which helps 3rd world countries build their infrastructure. Comments? Siren

Yeah, I saw it, but don't remember enough to comment on it. I thought it was intriguing. The music by Philip Glass really added to the experience.

I did see this film and have a copy of it on my shelves. As this film moves through the ten thoughts it has about war, Robert McNamara comes to questions about just war theory that it seems to me should have been thought of prior to following the steps he and those in power took during the wars he was involved with. The same holds true for our present war. Foresight is significantly lacking in our leaders.

The most striking moments in this film are the numbers of dead that flash onto the screen as the video of fire bombings over Japan in WWII are shown. The numbers in each city that were killed are staggeringly horrific. Millions of people slaughtered, cities destroyed. It is mindboggling to contemplate such devastation. And these bombings all happened before two atomic bombs evaporated 225,000 civilians in Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

There may seem to McNamara to be a Fog when it comes to War, but I can't see how it could be clearer that mass murder on this scale is clearly to be avoided at nearly all costs. Good film to offer on the boards. Thank you.

I haven't seen it, but I am adding it to my Netflix queue. I like a good documentary.
