Thanks for letting us know how it really was szgorzelski. The media tends to sensationalize everything (I know I used to work in radio years ago).

Basically, the guys who are on the "bomb squad" aren't the ones who clear out the area around the device. The "grunts" go in and clear out and secure the area before anyone goes in and tries to disarm and remove it. This was what bugged him the most about it. It looks good on film but that's not what really happens.
I haven't seen it but I have seen few acurat movies set on ships where they got it right. the funnest ones is where some officer is derecting a repair party and acutally making repairs. It don't happen that way. I was a E-6 in a repair locker and when we had a crash and burn I stayed where I belonged at teh bord at the repair locker and it was a second class who was the onscene leader, he is the one that derects the repairs and fights the fires at the scene. I doubt that they would have had any bomb desposel people on a ship that size. Then again Ihave not seen teh movie, it sounds like one I would enjoy.
Ps I was scared stiff, and one of my men was 17 andwatched that A-7 crash and burn killing 16 people.

It is a movie for cry out loud, of course they dramatize everything, and I found a lot of movie have no military accuracy, except for Saving Private Ryan, Oh man, I was so proud to be a ranger when that movie came out, but yeah, c'mon guys, it is entertainment, take it with a grain of salt.

The EODs I know when I was in Iraq were just sitting on their asses till we secure the area, yes they have a dangerous job, but so is everyone else.
