The movie "Master and Comander the Far Side Of The World" is infintly better then the book. I think that Foster has read too many early 1800 noviles. even the plot is better.
"Brave Hart" is based mor on ledgon and has some historical inacricys but the caraters or true.

Shopgirl - both the novella and the movie are favorites.

I also agree with the Virgin Suicides nod - but I just love Sofia Copolla movies, so I'm biased.

Rebecca directed by Hitchcock. I like the movie more, but I was also exposed to it when I was quite young and didn't read the book until I was a teen.

Wizard of Oz! Love the movie, really didn't get into the books...that might be worth revisiting as an adult, though.
