There are some of us who are "nocturnal creatures"---even though our spouses, roommates or significant others can fall asleep at the drop of a hat! So what's better than a good chiller?

Do you have a favorite? Old or new? As many times as I've seen them, I think the original UNIVERSAL HORROR MOVIES are great. Maybe it's because they used the same horror stars (Boris Karloff, Bela Lugosi, Lon Chaney Jr)....the music cues were similar (since most of the scores were written by Charles Previn and Hans Salter)...and it's fun to try and identify a supporting player who was murdered by the Frankenstein Monster, bitten to death by Dracula, or chewed up by the Wolfman before the picture ended?

What do you think?

John Carpenter's The Thing!

It had me afraid to walk by the fridge late at night because it was dark under there. I laughed at myself, because I was being dumb. *lmao*

That I enjoy? Any of the old Vincent Price movies, especially those adapted from Poe. Those weren't really scary, though - just fun. Then there are the comedies like _The Ghost and Mr. Chicken_ that I love.

More modern flicks.. I can't recall any off the top of my head. An American Werewolf in London and Army of Darkness were both enjoyable, but they weren't scary. Oh, wait - the freakin' Child's Play series with the killer doll. That thing scared me silly when I was a kid.

I'm not a "slasher" fan ... those types of films don't work for me ...

I do enjoy a good supernatural/paranormal film though. I saw one so long ago that I'm unsure if I've pegged the right film, but I believe it was titled Ghost Story (1981). Thirteen Ghosts was interesting too. The Skeleton Key and Dark Water were enjoyable, but those are more psychological in how they play out.

The scariest (as in OMG I'm going to die) movie I think I ever saw in terms of a horror film though after repeated viewings I have been tempered to it was Event Horizon. I saw that in the theater and had to close my eyes a few times.

Now a movie that’s not really one that would be listed under the genre horror film but that made me walk home from the theater real quick after I saw it was "Bringing Out the Dead" with Nicholas Cage. That is a phenomenally well done movie and after I saw it for the first time things just seemed a bit off with the world and I walked home real quick.

In terms of a movie that made me go OMG the world is in serious trouble that would have to be "An Inconvenient Truth" and yes ladies and gentleman we are all in serious trouble.

I am a big sissy, but LOVE scary movies. Being single I tend to watch them by myself and then stay up all night worried about the monster getting me. Last scary movie I watched was 30 Days of Night. Not too bad. Scary looking vampires. Dude, the one that always gets me (and is such a cliche) is The Exorist. Yup. Scary pea soup scenes freak me out. Silver Bullet is another classic. Dude, totally thought Thirteen Ghosts was scary. Any scary movies tend to freak me out alittle. I guess I'm a little insane since I just keep watching them.

I thought the very first, and the very last "Nightmare on Elm Street" films were freaky. I tend to like the more paranormal stuff, although I thought "The Blair Witch Project" was awful...Bad filming...a real what the______'s going on? Type of thing. "Supernatural" is one of my fav TV shows right now. If you like paranormal-type stuff, you should check it out.

PS-IMHO, the best way to watch a horror flick of any kind is snuggled up with a cute guy you really like! The more scred you are, the more he's gotta "protect" you, see? So, lots of hugging, etc...which can make for a nice evening! >-)

I forgot about Silver Bullet. The Dead Zone was a nice paranormal film also ... most everything else based on a Stephen King script starts out strong and sucks hard about halfway.

... The Exorcist? I finally caught that one late at night in the past couple years ... everyone always talked it up so much ... I was NOT impressed :P And what was up with that beginning portion with the guy in the desert? I didn't see any connection between it an the rest of the film.

At the 5th grade county science fair, I saw about the first 30-45 minutes of Watcher In The Woods before being dragged into another room where IJ:RotLA was playing (had already seen it). But that first bit of Watcher was so spooky to me. Last year I received the DVD as a gift and finally saw the ending ... wow, how LAME.

Dawn of the Dead (2004) would be my choice. Prince of Darkness was really creepy too. John Carpenter knows his scary stuff.
