I love scary movies. My favorite are the Grave Dancers, The Hills Have Eyes (remake), Rob Zombie remake of Halloween and his other two movies, and Borderland.

The Ring for sure - I kinda like the plot holes, actually. The Descent, I think has probably become my all time fav but only with the director's ending, which MAKES the movie, IMO. Prince of Darkness - classic. Shawn of the Dead is hysterical! I watched one last night that, for me, deserves some cudos just for mega-creepy scenes - The Unborn. The premise and general plot is not all that great, but still worth admission price for the cool scares.

Some of my faves:

Ghosts Of Hanley House - Try to track down the original version. The dvd put out by Alpha has added "effects" and is atrocious

Carnival Of Souls(Original) - A horror classic in every sense of the word. Buy the Criterion 2 disc edition. It's well worth the $$. I'm also lucky enough to have my dvd cover signed by star Candice Hilligoss and writer John Clifford.

My Bloody Valentine(Original)

Vacancy

Screams OfA Winter Night

The Strangeness

Neon Maniacs

The Fog(Original)

Creepshow

Creepshow 2

Demons

Demons 2

Strangeland

The Gravedancers

My all time favourite horror movie...the one that still gives me the creeps every time I watch it, would definitely be "Dead Birds". Other than that I also loved "The Descent" which really kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time!

Aliens or The Thing. I still have nightmares about those two movies.

Halloween (1978) - I'm 30 years old now and Michael Meyers is every bit as terrifying to me now as he was the first time I saw this movie when I was about 13. I don't know what it is but I get the heebie jeebies just thinking about this movie. I still have nightmares where I can see his white face sticking out of my dark closet. *shivers* And that is why, when I'm asked what my favorite scary movie is, I immediately chime in with Halloween. It is second to none in my humble opinion.

Night of the Demons - I still can't watch it alone, day or night. Maybe a little on the B side of horror but it has great scares and visual effects.

The Ring - Although it was the first in a long line of foreign horror to American remakes, it scared the bajeezers outta me. I could not sleep in the same room with my TV for two weeks. It is just as good as Ringu and I think mainly because of the director and Naomi Watts.

The Grudge - I was finally able to watch this alone two years ago and I had to sleep with the light on. Note, this is where I think the American remakes stopped being as good as the originals. But that's a whole other topic. This is not as tense as Ju-on but still scary in all caps.

The Strangers - I was so stoked to see the gritty texture and strong use of sound effects in this flick. The tension was palpable and the suspense had every muscle in my body tightened up. I don't know why it catches such a bad rep--it's good.

Wolf Creek - I'm an admitted gorehound and this one delivered not only gushy treats but genuinely good suspense and horror elements. My jaw dropped in one scene because they had me so fooled into thinking, hoping, that one character would survive. Tricky buggers.

[REC] - This is in Spanish so if you absolutely can't do subtitles then watch the (big surprise coming) American remake, Quarantine. But if at all possible watch [REC] because I found it oodles more frightening than Quaratine.

P.S. These are in no particular order. I enjoy way too many horror movies to be able to rank them other than my all-time fav of course. Also, I second the member who posted Event Horizon and the member who posted Dead Birds . Both are super underrated as horror movies and they're freaky!

The Blair Witch Project was my most awesome horror movie experience the first time I saw it. It kind of becomes laughable and ridiculous with multiple viewings though.
