I agree with Kite Runner but severely disagree with HP. XD

Another good adaptation is In Her Shoes.

I really love fantasy and sci-fi, so I have to say I loved the movie adaptation of Stardust by Neil Gaiman, it was really good and hit it right on the head, I think. Horton Hears a Who was also fantastic Also up there are the Chronicles of Narnia movies, Holes, the Princess Bride, K-Pax, the Water Horse, War of the Worlds.

Ones I didn't like- Eragon and the Golden Compass. Both were awful movies.

I absolutely love reading and am a voracious reader. As a result of that, I'm always looking for new books to read, new authors, new genres. I looked up a list of books made into movies and that made me think of the ones I think translated well, or were well done. Here's a few of the movies I think did the book justice:

The Color Purple, by Alice Walker

To Kill a Mockingbird, by Harper Lee

The Bourne movies, by Robery Ludlum

Lord of the Rings books, by Tolkein

Emma and Pride and Prejudict, by Jane Austen

Jurassic Park, by Michael Crichton

Harry Potter books, by J.K. Rowling

The Kite Runner, by Khaled Hosseini

What are your choices?
Well of course, the book is always better than the movie...with the exception of some Stephen King novels. Christine, Misery, The Green Mile, and my personal favorite...The Shawshank Redemption. Hollywood actually did them justice.

Did anyone here read the Twilight series? I'd like to hear some input on book versus movie, because they're putting out a second one in November!

If you are willing to sit for four hours the BBC has done a great interpretation of Elizabeth Gaskell's North and South. I would say that it is nearly as good as the 1995 P&P.

I think Speak was done very nicely. The Harry potter books were pretty well done. I would have kept a few things like Peeves. He was a good character, funny. Off topic the worst book to movie would be Blood and Chocolate. I was horribly upset oh yeah and Queen of the Damned. I almost screamed in the movie theater, "Marius didn't make lestat" That upset me cause i was a die-hard fan of the vampire chronicles.

I haven't read a lot of the classics, but I think Holes, The Chronicles of Narnia, Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events, The Notebook, I Capture the Castle (I can't remember who wrote it), Looking for Alibrandi by Melina Marchetta, and, while I never read the book,Friday Night Lights was truly excellent.

Personally, I think the Bourne movies were a lot better than the books, but the Harry Potter series and Eragon both failed dismally in their big screen interpretation.

I Think Missing by Meg Cabot should be made into a film, i know that it was made into an American TV series but the series is nothing like the book at all !!!

But i think with the right director it would bring in loads of cash and would make a great movie
