I have seen several remakes of old classic movies mainly drama and sci-fi. The latest remake I saw was "The Day The Earth Stood Still." I give this remake a definite thumbs down. The plot this time around was so far off base from the original that they really should have changed the title. The main character in the original movie was inquisitive and showed compassion which was definitely lacking in the remake. I say save your money and time as this remake was not worth seeing.

It seems to be a prerequisite for remakes. All with some kind of "modern" spin on them... they just end up being so burdened, garbled and so ridiculously far from the original point.... Some notable ones for me:

- Flipper
- Stepford Wives
- Manchurian Candidate

i agree that the names should be changed...

Just don't do it...an original is an original and 99.9% of the time is better than any remake.

Just a few examples...Willy Wonka, most movies made from TV shows (Dukes of Hazzard, Bewitched), and Disney classics like Freaky Friday and Parent Trap.

Did anyone see how Hollywood butchered "The Women"? I actually had been dreaming of a remake for years, but what they did was unthinkable. PIECE-O-CRAP

Most remakes are worthless. Classics are classics for a reason. The remake of Psycho was horrendous. The only remake I really enjoyed was the Thomas Crown Affair. Other than that, I don't like the remakes.

just wait until The Wolfman remake comes (yes, Lon Chaney jr). at least Benicio del Toro IS perfect for the look.
and what, Guillermo del Toro giving us his own version(s) of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde and/or Frankenstein?

so long as the remakes are good, i dont have a huge problem with them. you cant tarnish the original because its already there.
i saw Zombie's version of Halloween with a Michael fan. compared to the original, it doesnt hold a candle. but i watched the original before hand and really was interested to see a take on young Michael, and i was not disappointed. but really, Zombie's Halloween cannot be compared to Carpenter's, its just not fair. its just another movie with characters based on those from another. and really, do you want to see a SHOT FOR SHOT remake? as Rob Zombie himself said about his version "you've already seen Halloween, what would be the purpose of doing a shot for shot remake?"
on the other hand, Quarantine is a shot for shot of [REC], but [REC] is from a different country. another one is Funny Games. same title, same director, same movie, different countries (germany=orig, us=remake).
but seriously, when it comes to classics, its unfair to compare remakes to them. its fun and easy, but probably one sided.

I can't wait until the remake of Nineteen Eighty Four, which is supposedly going to start filming this year (last I heard). Also 'Akira' this year as well!

I think Hollywood should be forced to remake all the bad films they've made first before they can even be allowed to touch the good ones.

One of my favorite movies was a film noir called Double Indemnity, starring Fred McMurray and Barbara Stanwyck. I would love to see a remake of this.
