Hi Super Internet Detective! Well over a year ago, I bought the Champion 2000+ Juicer. It is STILL in the box waiting for me to make this huge shift in my eating habits to include serious juicing! Anyway, at that time, I was told it was one of the best but who knows. There are SO many juicers out there. What is that one that Montell Wms is peddling? It looks pretty good but I guess the difference it that it purports to utilize the skin (i think) since that is where the fiber and vitamins are. The majority of juicers claims to pulverize and get the most juice out of the skins, rind, etc.

BTW - your local well respected health food store staff are usually very helpful when if comes to knowing which juicers are good. They usually can tell you the ones NOT to waste your money on.

No - even fresh juice is too sweet for me and makes me sleepy and lethargic. I love orange juice though and get it as a treat occasionally.

So, I went and did a bit of research and found that the Jack Lalanne one isn't as good as it sounds. I found some just as inexpensive, if not cheaper on overstock. And, they have super low shipping, so that is a huge plus.

Scarlet, sounds like you got a great one. I compared what you got the some of the less expensive models and your's is top notch.

My super internet detective work is coming out, so I'll let you know what I find out.
I personally think it's worth it if you juice everyday to spend the extra money and get a Breville. i've heard Champions are good too. there are 2 kinds of juicers- Centrifical and blender type. the blender type like a Vitamix includes all the pulp- I don't like the texture.

what i like about the Breville is there is only 4 parts so it's super easy to clean, and its so powerful there is less prep work and it's fast, and you get the most juice out of your veggies. i throw everything in, skins, stem, everything.

my current favorite is tomato, parsely, sweet red pepper and celery.

I've also been doing pear and ginger, and carrot kale.

after a disasterous attempt at juicing back in the 80's, I decided to stop getting fresh juices at the local health food store and bought a Breville 1000 watt juicer. I call her "rosie"

it's amazingly fast, and i drink a fresh juice every morning, made of veggies and fruit- i even do spinach and collards, because an apple will sweeten it up nicely.

does anyone else here juice? any fave recipes?
I juice with a blender; A Vita Mix like you can find at Costco. Every morning I fill it about half way up with packed down greens, add one banana, one apple, about 3/4 up of frozen berries and a handful of raw almonds. I find that including all the fiber in the juice really helps my body function with regularity, if you know what i mean lol. The berries and fruit add flavor and color to the green drink.

I Magic Bullet my shakes...I don't believe in juicing unless it also includes eating the fiber that it comes with. I'm often happy with a simple milk, vanilla, banana protein shake.

Good day,
LK

I juice. I got a Jack LaLanne juicer for free (someone gave it away to me because they know I'm a healthy guy). I think the cleanup is not that fast at all, but I juice a batch at once and store it in glass containers which lasts me about a week. I broke my collarbone mountain biking months ago and I really think the juicing has helped with the healing...nothing better than gettting the real vitamins and minerals into your body.

What is my favorite recipes? Whatever fruits/vegetables are on sale :-D. I noticed my food bill has gone up a little since I have been juicing. That said, there are a few things I pretty much always have in my juice:

beets: one of the best foods to clean your liver and get rid of heavy metals in the body. I've even read European studies of tumors decreasing in cancer patients who drank tons of beet juice each day. Beets produce a lot of juice in the juicer.
broccoli: One of those perfect 'superfoods'- pretty much any vitamin or mineral you can think of broccoli ranks top 5 in largest amount of it (including things like calcium). Doesn't produce a lot of juice though so sometimes I'll also stick zucchini.
carrots or sweet potatoes: Pretty much both have what I want (vitamin A) so I'll swap.
at least one type of fruit- this is where the 'what's on sale' comes in. Straight beet and broccoli juice really doesn't taste good. I'm a healthy nut, but it's got to taste good too!
