Unfortunately, I occasionally suffer from pretty bad insomnia (it kind of flares up every few months) and it stinks. Although I started this topic mostly to gripe, does anyone else have a sleeping disorder? Any particular way you deal with it?

I had insomnia, sleep walking, plain old bad sleep, etc. It goes in spurts.

I spoke with a sleep disorder specialist who told me there are sleep hygiene habits we should all adapt to. I cannot remember them all. You might want to look them up.

I will tell you my sleep walking has has some funny and not so funny results.

Once, when I was about 12, my mom came into my room on a Saturday morning to find me fully dressed and in bed. She thought I had snuck out the night before. My hair was wet and I had a dream the night before of taking a shower.

A string of sleep walking nights happened about 12 years ago. I would get up and check my front door. The problem? I had already locked the front door and when I checked it while sleep walking I would unlock it. I had a 2 year old and was worried I would end up driving my car or something. This prompted my call to the sleep specialist.

Have you ever tried a mini sensory deprivation? I lay on my back with my MP3 player plugged in and block out all the outside noise. It's great to have the music breaking those thoughts that keep me awake sometimes. Sometimes I put on a blindfold. Sometimes just concentrating on my breathing helps.
