How in tune are you with your body? Do you ignore aches and pains, or are you a frequent visitor to your doctor's office? Do you particpate in maintaining good health or do you just let nature take its course?

I have been letting things take their course for most of my life but within the last year or so I've been less willing to blow off pain, etc. so I'm much more attentive now.

How about you?

It depends upon the scenario. At the moment, I have pretty bad pain in my rib area and back muscles from constant coughing. If I had the pain but no cough - I'd be off to the GP.

I do pay attention to early signs with colds. Out come the Buttermenthols and hot lemon drinks with paracetamol in them as soon as my throat feels scratchy.

Otherwise I'd say I'm fairly slipshod with my health ... it's something I notice when it is threatened!

Up until a few years ago I wasn't very in tune with what was going on in my body. My reaction to health issues was just to tough everything out or ignore it. I would work when sick and as a child I didn't even cry when I had a broken arm.

Yoga has helped me be more aware of my body and how it feels throughout the day. Between yoga and walking/running I am in the best shape of my life and I feel so much better.

About the same time as I started yoga my eye doctor and internist together figured out I have Sjogren's Syndrome, an auto-immune disease. If you have to have an auto-immune disease it is the one to have. I have very few symptoms and to keep it that way I have to be careful of my diet and get plenty of rest and exercise. When I don't I can really tell.

I have every intention of not letting this disease keep me from enjoying life and all I want to do, so now I eat healthy probably 90 percent of the time and pay attention to what my body is telling with me. Exercise and rest and staying stress-free through laughter and a positive attitude helps too.

I have been health conscious pretty much my whole life. I am 42, eat a plant based diet (whole grains, beans, vegetables, greens, fruit, etc), no processed sugar, no junk food. I do yoga and walk everyday.

I don't have pains...never have. So I can't answer that question.

But if I did, I probably would not go to the doctor unless it could be some kind of tumor or something. If I felt pain, depending upon the pain, I'd try to find the allergic trigger on my own first. Ie. clean up my diet.

I was diagnosed with a "low thyroid" a couple of years back and I healed it on my own, with herbs and yoga. It works!

I am MUCH better in tune with my health than I used to be. I used to ignore aches and pains, took over the counter stuff, lots of asprin, tylenol, and thank God for Alieve!

But after I started working out, eating better, stopped some bad habits, and started losing weight, I noticed some pain didn't go away, and I got worried. So I FINALLY went to the doctor and found out about the arthritis in my knees and shoulder, eroded cartiledge in one knee, uterine fibroids (that required surgery), a cyst in my breast (benign and removed, thank God), and my special treat: perimenopause!

I don't ignore pain and unusual things that happen with my body anymore. I'm much more aware of and disciplined about what I eat (but I enjoy a McDonald's sundae and apple pie most Sunday evenings - yum!), get in my 3500 calories worth of exercise each week, try to keep a good mental outlook and not stress out about things, laugh a lot (a LOT), try to keep my social life active and not close myself off with my books (so easy to do), and try herbal remedies from time to time after investigating them as much as I can.

I may not be able to reverse some of the conditions I have, but I can be a healthier me and improve the quality of my life.

When my husband got sick due to heart problem and diabetes and eventually died after 7 months of bedridden, I was paranoid of getting sick. I stopped working and I was always at home doing farmtown and farmville on facebook, chatting with online friends, I was slowly going into depression and my daughter suggested that I enroll in yoga. I started attending yoga since april and I have improved a lot, I lost weight and I began working again. I do some meditation also and I stopped eating pork and beef. I eat mostly vegetable and fish and a little chicken. I avoid carbo on my diet, one a day rice only. My blood pressure became normal. I can do my ballroom dancing for 3 hours and I still feel great!
