I have been a diabetic for about 4 years. When I first found out, I lost 70 pounds in a year. It felt so great and I kept it off for two years. Then I fell and hurt my shoulder and ended up having surgery. I was not allowed to walk outside as an exercise or on a treadmill for fear I would fall. Of course, I then got lazy with the exercise and the diet and I can't seem to get back on track. I have not gained all the weight back that I lost, but I have gained far more than I should have. I know longer have the energy that I had before nor am I happy with the way I look. I have let myself get discouraged and can't seem to get out of the rut. I'm sure there is someone out there who can relate to my problem. Please talk to me.
I fall into the same issue. I lost a lot of weight about 3 years ago. Then I had some big changes in my life and the last two summers I've put some it back on. Now I want to get it off again but I don't seem to have that magical energy and motivation it took the first time. The first time I was in grad school losing weight and studing was my whole life. Now I'm teaching and work at least 9 hour days, sometimes 9 and 1/2 to 10 hour days. I just don't have the energy in the morning or evening to get my butt motivated and moving. I need to find another thing to make me- snap, like before and get moving.

I guess I could go into the DI mode and give a motivational speech filled with expletives deleted. Music309, I've been there. I've been up and down so much I have stretch marks. The last time it was a long slide up the weight scale. I kept telling myself that my pants still fit and since I was walking I could eat a bit more and as long as I was eating the sevrving size, which I never measured, and the pants kept getting bigger and the energy faded away, I was out of breath just walking up the stairs, my knees got worse and the walks fewer. Then a medical issue, not diabetes, and a full length mirror made me realize that if I didn't do something I wouldn't make my 60th birthday. That was close to 6 years ago. I lost 90 lbs and that was the easiest part. I did that within 2 years. What I had to do was keep it off. That's the hard part. I get up up most days at 5 a.m. and I'm not a true morning person. Forget exercise, I'm lucky to get my pants on straight and make myself a bit of breakfast. I used to jog and walk, the weight destroyed my knees, so until I get them replaced later this fall. No aerobic exercise for me, just some medicine ball work and light weights. I lost my weight by counting everything I put in my mouth and writing it down and limiting my calorie intake. I still do that because it's the only option I have right now. Do I have bad days, yep. Today I stopped by the store to pick up a couple of lottery tickets and as I waited in line. A couple of chocolate bars were talking to me. I even checked out the calories, and said to myself I can have one. Got my tickets, and when I got to the car, and looked around for the candy bar it wasn't there. I hadn't bought it.
I could keep going on but it comes down to you. I keep going because of a promise I made myself. I get discouraged because I've realized I'm going have to do this the rest of my life whether I exercise or not, but I feel better about myself. Five years ago I figured I'd be a fat lonely old man. Now there's a whole new world waiting for me. I might even go out on a date again.
Look how you originally lost the weight if you counted calories start doing that. First, take a look at what your eating. You don't have to give up anything, just do it in moderation. I love ice cream. My desert most nights is an ice cream cone. Why a cone, because a 1/2 cup serving of the light ice cream fits into one. And I love chocolate I usually have some sort of dark chocolate in the house. I allow my self the serving size and it takes care of that itch. If exercise worked get back to it even if it's only 5 to 10 minutes to start. A lot of days I'm dragging, I still try and do a couple of sets with the weights and or medicine ball. It takes me 15-20 minutes scattered through the evening.
If it's what your eating. I cook for one. What I had for dinner tonight filled a 10 inch dinner plate. Cost me around 350 calories. Took maybe 15 to 20 minutes to prepare and cook. If you need any suggestions or ideas of what to try for for dinner, let me know. How about an Egg McMuffin that has about 220 calories in it for breakfast.
Let me get off the soap box.
As the drill instructor would say. %#@$#!*%?!@@$# and do it for yourself
