Brian Wellinghoff, Store Manager.

Beth Shirley, RPh, CCN, DANLA recommends:

If you get sick, at the first signs of flu:
- Oscillo. 1 tube under the tongue every 3 hours.
- Nucleotides. 2 capsules every hour for 48 hours, then 4 times daily for a few days
- Avoid sugar as it lowers your immune system.

I just take glutamine. I haven't been sick aside from food poisoning and hangover for over a year and a half since I've been taking it.

Linden tea brewed up pink is supposed to help a cough [lungs] and/or when you have the flu. I've used it several times and harvest it myself.

Astragalus is good for the immune system and can be bought at most Asian food shops. I like the taste
and brew it up when I'm sick. Though it can be drank while you are healthy to help your immune system.

There's also the bitter ______
herb {yes I've forgotten the name} that Native Americans used for immune system and when sick. I'll edit this when I remember the name-it's bitter and I've never liked it.

Indian herbs from India also have tonics to help via a flu but I've never learned about them.

Ginseng is a good year yound herb for all around health. It can also be used for flu. Warning, Ginseng has a caffeine affect. Too much can make you nervous, raise your blood pressure, etc. My favorite is Red Korean Ginseng though I haven't drank too much Ginseng in years.

Traditional medicines have a great lineup of herbal teas. Breathe Easy helps you clear up nasal passages. It contains natural sudafed so be careful you don't take too much [blood pressure, etc.]

You can start your homepathic education by buying a good book on it and/or herbal teas.

I forgot one of my favorites. Currently I'm sipping Throat Coat by Traditional Medicines. It takes away throat pain on contact. It's Slipper Elm Bark and works better than any over the counter RX.

Another simple way to bolster your immune system and prevent flus and colds is vitamin D. I've seen recommendations of anywhere between 2,000 nd 5,000 IUs. From the reading I've done, long term doses of 10,000 IUs have been evaluated and are considered safe.

If you need more reason to take vitamin D, studies have shown that vitamin D deficiency is extremely common - at least one study found over 80% of the general population was deficient, and those with darker skin (Asian, African, etc) are even more likely to be deficient - some studies inicate deficiency rates of 97%. Deficiency has been linked to increased risk of various cancers, chronic pain, multiple sclerosis, cognitive impairemnt (including Alzheimers), several autoimmune diseases, high blood pressure and more. Ironically, vitamin D deficiency also increases risk of skin cancer - and sun screen can block about 95% of the vitamin D we absorb from the sun.

So take your vitamin D
