I'm wondering if it would be at all possible to make a notation on modded posts that are then released to the thread. Sometimes I will be reading a thread and a post will kick in somewhere before where I am reading and it may have a valid point. But, if I can't tell which one it is, because the thread it so long, I can't figure out which one it is.

Is there anyway to highlight or maybe an icon that can be placed on these posts?

Hey Andie

Thanks for the suggestion! Our moderation system and boards systems are actually two different systems so I think this might be really hard to do.

BUT, we did just make a big change to the site that should reduce the number of posts/threads that end up in moderation. AND, I'm working with the Team Who Decides What The Bad Words Are (not their official name...) to get some words that really aren't that bad, off our list.

Those two things together should REALLY reduce the number of posts that go into moderation. And hopefully increase the Community's happiness, too!

Hope this helps!

Cool, Lori. Glad to know things are being looked at. I just get frustrated when I know there is a new post behind me but I can't find it.

I do find that it helps when someone knows that a post they've made has been modded if they make a post noting that. That at least leaves a placeholder for the post when it does appear and serves as a marker to go back and look for when searching for the released post... Sometimes someone will also make a post that just notes where their released post now appears in the thread (when doing this, it's most helpful to identify the post number instead of just the page since one person's page 20 might be another's page 11...).

You are right, though, that posts released from moderation often get lost in a thread because they were first made pages before the most recent post...

I would totally agree on the number factor except when other posts have been removed then the number changes. I recently had a post or two removed and never knew about it until I we trying to figure out why the number of posts had gone down. BTW, one of the posts only referenced getting some beer. The other, after posting it, I now realize had a veiled sexual reference I didn't intend.

Yeah; that can happen, although it's actually pretty rare for any posts to be deleted. Sometimes, though, there is major cleanup in a thread, in which case any previously noted page or post numbers become irrelevant...lol. In those cases, too, there may be "collateral damage," with posts deleted simply because they reference other posts that "had" to be deleted (e.g., because they just won't make sense any longer if they stay in the thread...). Possibly that was the case in the posts of yours that were deleted...

Dear " Lori " ,

Perhaps this would help . When a person is " modded " , ( even temporarily ) , notify them , with a copy of what is " modded " . ( In fact , an auto reply for ALL posts might be a good idea ! That way , if a poster wanted , one could file all their posts to an E-mail file . ) The auto reply should clearly state in the subject line

1., " AS POSTED to ____________ in E-Harmony Advice " ,

2., " AS SENT TO A HUMAN FOR CHECKING FOR POSSIBLE MODERATION, IN ____________ in E-Harmony Advice " ,

3., " AS MODERATED , and WILL NOT BE posted to ____________ in E-Harmony Advice " ,

Also , two openly visible place holders could be added to the " thread " . One , in the place where something WOULD be , stating that a post had been made , and was , for the time being , delayed by the system . THEN , when a posting DID make it through the system , another posting placed at THAT time in the thread , noting that people may wish to look BACK to , ( ALL three ) ; the " page " number , the " posting number " , AND " the date and time posted " . ( This would leave the posting in it's proper place , since simply posting it in the place it would show up after it's " checking " might leave it not making as much sense . )

Whilst these may seem to take up a lot of expensive human's time , they could all be done automatically once programed into your system . People could also be allowed CHOOSE whether to be included in any of these " auto systems " . ( The DEFAULT , of course , would be to be included . )

As one who is college educated specifically in the area of human sexuality , and in education , I sometimes reply to " threads " that cry out for help in this area . Even though these " threads " are most often in the " Let's Talk About Sex ! " area , they are VERY often " modded " ; sometimes temporarily , sometimes for long periods of time . Since the person asking for help , probably wants that help " A . S . A . P . " , long " mod " times , can be hurtful . They make me very sad . As I understand it , no one under the age of majority , is even supposed to be ON this site . I , for one , do not need the protection of someone else's eyes to protect me from " bad " words . I DO , however , think a system of reporting bad posts is O . K . , if not good . Some people DO attack other people , verbally , and their posts SHOULD be " modded " .

Thank you for your time , reading this rather long post !!! ( MANY of my posts end up being somewhat long , due to the subject matter . )

Sincerely ,

Alec ,

( camper33 ) .

Hi Alec,

Thanks so much for your post.

What you're describing would (it seems to me, a non-tech person) require a considerable amount of programming time/resources and we already have a super long list of things to do.

The good news is, in the event that you want to make sure your reply gets to the Member, you can copy/past prior to hitting "Post" (always a good idea, anyway, just in case!) and then if you see your post is moderated, you can PM it to them.

I feel your pain about being frustrated with being "protected" - not everyone feels as you do, too, a lot of our Members would prefer to never see certain words on the boards and we also have our eHarmony brand to consider, too.

But we definitely appreciate your suggestions and ideas!

I haven't had a modded post in quite some time.

I must be doing something wrong.

For beginners you can start by going-

&%&&^@#$(*&^%$#%%

f________, s___________,

etc.,-------------------------

These are supposed to get you moderated, outside of writing the undesired words.

Good Luck,
