Do you ever get the feeling that being a well-rounded, cultured person who enjoys good insightful conversation about any topic sometimes intimidates others or turns them away? Whether a date or some other setting? or if you're a passionate ambitious person who knows what you want, and goes after it or has gone after it and achieved goals?

Intelligence is the sexiest quality, but only someone else who is intelligent would appreciate that...someone you can relate to on your own level...but then what defines intelligence...common sense?...making good choices in life?...embracing wisdom from experience?

I've been told I'm intimidating for a number of reasons.

Brainy sometimes gets the guys stressed, along with having a "tough chick" job. Throw in a sense of humor and the fact that I say things other people have the good sense not to, and I don't get asked out very often.

I've actually been told that I'm intimidating. It stems from the fact of stereotypical behaviour. I'm tall, blonde with blue eyes and when men or women meet me, they tend to put me in the basket of "dumb blonde" - that's before I open my mouth. When I open my mouth, they're stunned and have no idea what to say.

I had many, many awkward dates, where guys expected that I would be just another "easy, dumb blonde". One of them, who was intelligent, and didn't run away, even told me that I seem intimidating.

I don't even know how to "fix" that. It's my personality and changing it would be sort of impossible.

I agree with both responses before me. I have found that just getting men to meet your eyes, and maintaining that eye contact can make you intimidating to them. Can the men online explain this to me? Suzie

Well, I suppose that kinda depends on what the rest of the "body language" is "saying" along with it...

I've been told that I'm intimidating to men, but I honestly don't know why.

Who the "freak" knows.

I've been told I am from various people -- especially guys. I try not to take it personally, but my job, my age, and my appearance seem to be a little off-putting to some. Once, a guy told me I was too funny and too smart to date. I'm not a model, I'm not tall, with long flowing hair or anything like that; I'm just me. Another told me that because I wasn't the "typical" black woman (whatever THAT means) I was intimidating...
*sigh*
I think I'm approachable, fun, and welcoming. That's my story and I'm sticking to it!
