I think "fundamentalist" in America has come to mean someone who is rigidly wedded to extreme beliefs, chief among which is the belief that people who don't share the fundamentalist's beliefs are Wrong and/or Bad. It sounds like for you it has a more technical meaning, just describing a certain type of Christianity. Is that general Aussie or is it just you?
I think it's generally Aussie, as extremist acts (in the news) are referred to as being carried out by extremist groups, not fundamentalist groups.

Good question!

Football! We have three types: Australian Rules (AFL - aka 'aerial ping-pong), National Rubgy League (NRL - this is what I barrack for) and Rugby Union. None of them are anything like American Football.

I think myself that people (both sexes! ) sometimes react strongly because he/she has actually been in that situation and found it offensive. Then it is all too easy to zip back to feelings at the time, and project.
Ok, but even so, it's just the misuse of offensive. Why would a person be offended if they're not being insulted? Are atheists offended there are people who are religious? If you like Bach are you insulted that I think he's overrated?
