For years now we have been notified via the news media about Autism. This thread is about high functioning Aspergers (and or high functioning Autism.) Many times the media only shows low functioning Autism. More boys and men have it than women. Are you aware of the intellectual benefits associated with Aspergers?

What do you think having Aspergers and high functioning Autism means? I'm not an expert here. I have Aspergers and am proud of it. I don't need to "get cured" nor do I take meds. In fact I think "normal people" need to take pills. They are so violent!

That'sa joke...

Why don't you explain it Outlaw1? Even medical books aren't that clear in their descriptions of it. Suzie

Warning! The below post is prejudiced and explains some online difficulties:

Bottomline the difference between a high functioning autistic and a "normal" person might be we have more geniune feelings while a "normal" person is more socially deceptive. We get confused by this and online these deceptive people (who pretend to be "nice") attack our grammar...not our ideas. Thus online some of us are hated, vilified, made fun of, laughed at, sometimes censured and banned.

Why? Because we are more intelligent. So Aspergers and autism is indeed the gift of intelligence. They need to pill the most intelligent Citizens!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Why? Because "normal" people tend to be more brainwashed...(hint-every Govt around the world brainwashes their Citizens.)

Some of us tend to have a higher sense of humor...while the "no salt and pepper" folk detest us for our perceived lack of seriousness (on some ocassions.) They DEMAND to control us via our verbiage/grammar, etc. Since they can't (as some of us are rebels) we are socially ousted. Some autistic men(new members on a website) might initially be volatile because they need to vent.

Once they have vented, with support they can be excellent Community members. Without support and if attacked, might get flustered and lash out in a violent manner having been prejudiced our whole lives, we refight old fights to get accepted.) "Normal" folk like some women & men for example, don't understand, and will band together to gang up on the autistic male.

Others, even if informed of our speech communication difficulties, derive GREAT joy out of continually bullying us. It gives them the POWER they lack offline. They bully us using words which while not direct insults, allude to our ignorance. Such THEY don't violate Community Guidelines and are FREE to attack us...

While in our frustrations, OUR attacks become personal (imagine 2 turtle insulting a Tiger...the Tiger will get impatient and strike...) Usually the bullies are lower or normal iqed folk who believe they are intellectual giants. Once we trounce them (if we don't lose our patience) they realize they can't attack us directly. So that leads directly to them ganging up on us...

Here this post of mine will be attacked by someone who objects to my grammar and Politically Correctness. They will "appear to be concerned" and "attempt to correct me." All of the above is my opinion only and not medical fact. For that you must pay me... We are attacked online because we have geniune feelings. They have lost their heart talk and MUST attack us for their shallow/materialistic lives.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ +++++++++++++++++

For me it's easier to use info from links which describe it way better than I ever could.

"People with Asperger's Syndrome (AS) tend to have normal to above-normal intelligence (as measured by IQ tests). They tend to exhibit what some call the "Walking Dictionary Syndrome" - a non-stop flood of words about their obsessions or knowledge."

"Constant and persistent behavior that cannot be explained (e.g. keeps counting coins, watching bottle cap move, or watching the same video clip again and again.)"

http://iautistic.com/test_AS.php

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

That's me, I'll watch an enjoyable video clip several times over-especially ones with good music. I'm stimulated by good music and good dialogue. I'm not that bad compared to some. If you saw me, there is nothing different from me than from anyone else via appearance.

I'm not a low functioning autistic. Upon encountering me offline most people say "he's a good man." That's a hallmark of autism, unlike "normal" people (lol!) many autistics don't understand certain social concepts (we get "trained" by ya'all) of being harsh, devious, etc. Many of us mistakenly tell the truth whereas in certain social situations, not telling, denying and/or outright lies is the norm.

EXAMPLE-THE OPPOSITE OF AN AUTISIC IS THE POLITICALLY CORRECT. THEY HATE US BECAUSE WE TELL THE TRUTH. THEY PILL US BECAUSE WE TELL THE TRUTH. THE POLITICALLY CORRECT DECEIVE...VIA VERBAL GAMES. THUS ONLINE, PC ARE NATURALLY BIASED AGAINST AUTISTICS.

They will grammar (our major weakness) and word police us to death and attempt to force us off of websites. We are anethema to them...in the future, I predict the American Totalitarian Govt will hunt down (mandatory medication) Autistics for their high iqs and ability to see thru the BS.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

autistic test-I'm not that bad and don't do that crazy stuff! While technically I'm an ambivert, I can be socially outgoing. But sometimes I'll be shy and won't understand inconsequential social bs bantering. Sure I can get along, etc...but sometimes because of high iq or whatever, I'll feel like a loner sometimes.

Other times some of us can be socially popular. A lot I feel, for high functioning autistics is self-esteem.

http://www.piepalace.ca/blog/asperger-test-aq-test

ASPERGERS AND AUTISTICS ARE LOOKED DOWN UPON! Check out the below link and see how we are portrayed IN A NEGATIVE MANNER! INSTEAD OF MENTIONING FAMOUS PEOPLE AND/OR OUR HIGH IQS, THE BELOW LINK STARTS OFF with all negatives. LIke we are a Frankenstein. There are lots of levels of social functioning and many doctors still aren't educated enough about US!!!!!!

Of course there is no "cure." The only sickness we have is telling the truth!@ In order to survive, we learn to lie! Because that's what most people do... On the other hand, "normal" people are the ones who make wars, are corrupt, greedy, etc. They should be pilled and "cured." Of course I'm not suggesting we too don't have those human foibles.

http://www.autismresearchcentre.com/tests/cast_test.asp

Hints:

Because of how we have been socially treated, we might be reactive, overreactive, etc. If a medical professional does NOT have autism, they know NOTHING about autism other than to be prejudiced against us (we are lab hamsters to them. They are the unfeeling, sterile biased "normal" folk who need to be pilled to be more relaxed and laugh like an Aspie.)

Don't believe the negative hype. Not everyone with autism is rolled up in a ball, unable to talk. Many medical professionals are behind the times/most recent information. Ask other autistics to fully understand autism/Aspergers better.

disclaimer, the above is 100% prejudiced for autistics. It does not represent all autistics and/or might be wrong in certain sections, sentences, etc. Thank you for this time.

sorry i might be showing my ignorance here who knows. I just remember reading about autism and aspergers. I remember in a book i read the difference between the two is that an autistic person lives inside there own world, and an asperger person lives in the world in the way of there choosing. In other words they like to have everything scheduled and the same. They are very interested in a certain thing i.e. collecting coins to almost a point of obsesssion. That is kind of what I have been told. Correct me if I am wrong. Don't yell just correct. I would love to learn more about it.

Just two cents worth of perspective. It may sound 'prejudiced' to an aspie that my view of autism is different because I have a son with a more seriously impairing form of the condition. So be it. Autism is a spectrum disorder which describes the functionality of the person with the condition based on criteria of their ability to perform what most people would consider routine behaviors: talk, interact socially, tolerate the surrounding environment. It also is sometimes accompanied by uncontrolled physical ticks: hand flapping, toe walking, verbal noises, head shaking, the list goes on. Aspergers is found on the high-end of the ability level of the ASD spectrum (Austim Spectrum Disorder is short-handed ASD). The difficulty in defining the condition is that it ranges from the abilities of the writer (Outlaw1) who is fluent in language, obviously comprehends society, has interactions and can relate to most social norms down to a child like mine, one who can barely speak, does not connect with the world at large, has difficulty tolerating overstimulating environments and has ticks--such as screaming--that he is unable to control. I am not correcting anyone here in my presentation. I am simply pointing out that defining something that has such a vast range of 'what it looks like' is very difficult. Autists are like snowflakes--no two are alike, but, they have some facets in common. I hope this helps to round out the discussion. Thank you.

Have you heard of TEAAM? I don't want to call it a support group, although they can be very supportive, but it's an organization that has all sorts of references, facts, information, contacts, and just about anything a person with ASD would want to know. Many of the members have either ASD or a family member with it. They are nationally known, and many of the members and/or professionals have best sellers on the shelves. If you haven't, you should check them out.
