I'm not a genius, but compared to some of the people I've seen, it feels that way. I don't have an over-inflated ego, so I don't think I'm some kind of MENSA elitist. It just seems to me many people choose stupidity over education or ignorance over truth.

The reason for this is because they have more fun their way! Maybe if I pretended to be stupid or asked for a lobotomy then I could get in on some of that fun. Plus, I wouldn't even realize how stupid I was.

“I exist as I am, that is enough, if no other in the world be aware I sit content, and if each and all be aware I sit content” - Walt Whitman

"And there are those who talk, and without knowledge or forethought reveal a truth which they themselves do not understand. And there are those who have the truth within them, but they tell it not in words. " - Kahlil Gibran

“To find yourself, think for yourself: —Socrates

"It is better to be hated for what you are than to be loved for what you are not" - Andre Gide

“I think, therefore I am” - Rene Descartes

“I shall be telling this with a sigh

Somewhere ages and ages hence:

Two roads diverged in a wood, and I-

I took the one less traveled by,

And that has made all the difference”

- Robert Frost

Welcome to the 21st century. I can't help youbecause I often feelexactly like you feel. Sometimes I wish I had killed more brain cells during my college years in the '70's because I might "fit in" better.

However, when I have the thoughts you express Ichastise myself for being arrogant. On the other hand, I think there is little doubt that US literacy rates and education levels are declining. So, at least in the US, there is a factual basis for what you are observing. Good luck, you're gonna need it.

I don't think people who are stupid or ignorant necessarily have more fun. In my opinion it would be quite the opposite. The more intelligent you are the more you are aware of what a wonderful thing it is to be alive when science is pushing back the boundaries of what was once unknowable. There is a real thrill and satisfaction that comes from mastering some new concept or simply thinkng new thoughts.

How sad to go through life with the kind of blinkers the ignorant, especially the willfully ignorant are shackled with. I would far rather risk a little security, a little certainty, a few laughs for the sake of having an alive mind.

Me too but those with that attitude and with truly curious minds are few and far between. Most people that are not intellectually curious and adventuresome never realize what they missed. That is sad.

Yep - I agree with both the comments above.

But you know higher levels of intelligence, cognisance, curiosity and awareness can be a double-edged sword -- from the research I have read, the more intelligent you are and the higher your IQ is, the more likely you are to suffer from a psychiatric disorder than someone of lesser intelligence. So there really is something to be said about "ignorance being bliss"...

Well, all men and women are not created equal but I think even the ones on the lower end of the IQ scales see their worlds in much the same way (not meaning those with brain damage or brain dieseaseor born with mental retardation). Our egos compell us to feelthat we are not stupid nor ignorant. The brain isremarkable and the newscientific frontier in my opinion. We devise systems for survival and seeking pleasure and comfort over a lifetime starting in the womb when we feel safe and secure hearing the sound of our mother's heartbeat. Much of our feelings and behavior areinstinctive and even the dumbest ones are born with instinct.

I derive far too much humor from the antics of the less intelligent to ever give up being smart.

I don't really find intelligence as a hinderance to participating in "mindless fun". Sure, it can be more difficult to find a peer group to engage in more high-brow pursuits, but I can have just as good of a time hanging out with people of average intelligence as I can with people that challenge my mind.
