I know a couple who are atheists that send their kids to a Catholic school...I have only one word for them...heroes...they understand that the 'excessive' moral indoctrination of the Catholic school is more appealing than the often lacking secular values offered in public education.

Better to start them off with too mny character values than too little...it's too hard to change one's base values as an adult.

I wouldn't. My own Christian faith makes a pretty clear statement to us that we should not marry non-Christians. Since I take my faith seriously, I will honor this teaching of the Bible.

OK. I'll scratch your name off my list.
Or, you could always join a church

About five years ago, I went to a funeral that was held in a church. Does that count?

Why spend years trying to rid your children of delusions, of irrational dislike of women, homosexuals, other religions? Why spend years trying to teach your kids to never trust any priest or preacher--they can and have hurt too many kids? Why spend years teaching your kids that it really is o.k. to think for yourself, that intelligence is not something to be ashamed of? Why spend years helping you kids realize that they have nothing to fear about death, that it is simply the end and not the beginning of eternal torture from an imaginary being? Why spend years helping your kids learn that if they want the world to change for the better they must do it to themselve because there is no imaginary being to do it for them? Why spend years convincing them that if they want to find a guy or girl it is their responsibility to do this and not download it to an imaginary god of courtshiips?

In oher words why send your kids to any church school when they could go to secular, humanist, pluralistic public schools where they will learn that be a thinking human being is no threat to any imaginary being, that we are all equal and that no priest, or preacher, or one book, or one authoritiy has any right to dictate to them...

Well in all seriousness, I cannot even imagine what kind of circumstances would ever cause me to join any church. I don't knock church people, I just have no reason or need to want to go to church. I see no point in sitting around listening to some guy--almost always some guy--talking about how if I don't suck up to some imaginary being I will be fried forever--and oh yeah this imaginary being, the one who is contemplating hurting me forever, is really a loving imaginary being.

Like I said I could handle dating or even marrying some guy who went to church. But if he thought for one minute that I would be joining him there, he would be very disappointed. I have better things to do with my time, like, say, sleeping in on a Sunday!

if it matters to me and I know I am not the right person for them...

WHY do you care? it matters because it matters....

if that's what I know...

WHY do I have to be willing to ... in your opinion...

I want to share similar viewpoints so that spirituality is a part of the relationship...

not something we just agree to disagree on...

I am sure they can be a very nice ethical, moral, compassionate person....

But an elusive component will be missing....

So, again I say respectfully....

No ...thank you...

period...

Is it your opinion that atheists cannot be spiritual?
