Truth: The government is "gambling" that the economy, over time, will stabilize, henceforth, printing monies that "they" do not have.....[/b][/b]
Treasury yields imply there are plenty of deep-pocketed bond investors willing to provide these monies. It is opportune to take them now.
Quoting pinz:
Government is going to throw 17.4 billion at the Big 3 auto manufacturers. I think any sensible investor knows that is just throwing good money away. All these 'emergency' funds are doing is allowing the Big 3 an opportunity to create a Chapter 11/Bankruptcy 'legal framework' that will minimize THEIR long term' loss and protect any remaining assets from 'government seizure'. It's a chumps game. [/b]
Better to shovel it into unemployment, welfare, et.al.? It is unlikely the govm’t will lose more than a small portion of this loan. And, the survival of “our” automakers will prevent a lot of unemployment and associated hardship in Canada. You can thank us later.

Phooey. If the unions are not willing to make MAJOR concessions to align with non-union wages in North America,l then management WILL file for 'protection'. And trust me, FILE they will. It is the quickest and most efficient way to eliminate exorbitant health and pension obligations to union members.

(Plus, who in their right mind is going to BUY a 'new' North America automobile when parts, service and warranties hang in the balance as well ??? )

The monies could be BETTER spent INVESTING in technologies that would better position North America to COMPETE with GLOBAL economies. The 'loan' is not 'helping' the situation, it is only prolonging their inevitable demise. They are only buying a modicum of time to 'prepare' before it hits HARDER anyway.

Overall, I 'blame' management for this catastrophic business FAILURE, not the unions, though, to be sure, the unions have been equally and as deliberately 'blind' to the realities of global business.

The ones hardest hit will be the aging blue collar worker who has not been 're-tooled' for the 'new economy'. The manufacturing sector in North America will continue to decline cuz we just can not compete with the emerging Asian markets. Fact.

And you're welcome.

The government can only make things worse. They cannot make it better. The fed is just going to print money until it runs out of trees creating hyperinflation. 10 bucks for a loaf of bread anyone? The politicians on both sides think they can fix it, when they are the cause of the problem. It's like calling the arson that set your house on fire to come help you put it out!

BTW it was a good joke
