I've never really understood why that has great meaning for people. Yes, it's a 'big' question and millions wonder about it but when I put that in the perspective of how people (and I guess Americans even more so) are so incredibly myopic about other cultures (xenophobia) then I wonder it's it's just for entertainment.

I'm so much more interested in:
- Will I get to see any major illnesses eliminated?
- Will there be an new-intellectual revolution that will results in people being more willing to rid the world of evil?
- Will the Middle-East have peace?
- Will the Islamic world fight to remove terrorism from it's ranks?... will they have their own intellectual revolution?
- Will they ever invent caffine-free, diet Jolt?

Will we ever have decent affordable health care?
Will the radicals on both sides go back to being the extremist fringe they were intended to be?
Will my favorite restaurant be rebuilt? Made the best food around and burnt Monday.

That is because you seemed to be focused on the human condition and you don't regard anything outside of that as important?

Evil? Really? Or is it the pyschological diseases and petty emotions like greed and jealousy and small things like poverty that cause people to commit crimes?

So the question isn't about ridding the world of evil but it is about finding cures for mental illness and poverty. IMHO

Yes... and we will find it in our own solar system first... not on a planet necessarily but perhaps in one of the oceans on one of Saturn's moons... I think we will at least find single celled or microbial 'creatures'.

Don't be tempting me there, Dennis.... I have Photoshop, and I know how to use it!

Actually, I'd like to live long enough to see the human race grow up to the point we can finally accept responsibility for ourselves and the planet.... instead of sittin' around waiting for Jaweh, the Rapture, the New Age, the next magical tech thingy, aliens from the Pleides, whatever... to come save us!

Will we live long enough to see great change?
Probably not. And if we did, we might not realize it.
My grandmother was born in 1884. She lived through the invention of the phone, widespread radio, electrical wiring, and in door plumbing plus cars and planes!
She never saw any of that stuff as unusual, just pleasant.

Still haven't heard anything from the coalition of animals about this (I mean the animals themselves... what is the level of respect that creatures that are not self-aware deserve? Certainly it should be illegal to torture them and I think it would be very deserved to call killing apes, dolphins, etc. some form or murder, but is not eating animals what you mean?
