I like your new avatar, Sassafras. And I think you should alternate between that one and a nicely cropped version of your "electric kitty" painting (depending on your mood of course)!

BTW, reminds me of that organization, the Red Hat Society, founded for women over 50, and named after that poem by By Jenny Joseph, When I Am an Old Woman I Shall Wear Purple:

When I am an old woman, I shall wear purple
with a red hat that doesn't go, and doesn't suit me.
And I shall spend my pension on brandy and summer gloves
and satin candles, and say we've no money for butter.
I shall sit down on the pavement when I am tired
and gobble up samples in shops and press alarm bells
and run my stick along the public railings
and make up for the sobriety of my youth.
I shall go out in my slippers in the rain
and pick the flowers in other people's gardens
and learn to spit.
*
You can wear terrible shirts and grow more fat
and eat three pounds of sausages at a go
or only bread and pickles for a week
and hoard pens and pencils and beer nuts and things in boxes.
*
But maybe I ought to practice a little now?
So people who know me are not too shocked and surprised
When suddenly I am old, and start to wear purple.

Yuck..Yuck.. Yuck.

My mom is a member. Not my style. When I'm old, I'll probably STILL be wearing a Led Zep tee.

Cool! Am a "Stones" fan myself, or as Keith Richards would say, “It`s great to be here. It`s great to be anywhere."....

Some people look good in hats, I am not one of those.
So that's one club I won't be joining.
Britney was cute when she started out but she went Hollywood way too fast, then reverted to redneck Hollywood.

I don't look good in hats either. But I'll be d a m n ed if that is going to stop me from being outrageous with either a hat, or a concert t-shirt!

I don't get why old ladies in red hats wearing purple are yucky? Please explain! I'm not much of a joiner of things like this, but if I were, I'd join them. Would this be a huge mistake? Probably it's not quite the right group for me but still ...

Germaine Greer wrote a book called The Change: Women, Aging and the Menopause in which she puts forth "the Witch and the Crone of history and literature as role models" (among other topics, and to quote one of the reviews on Amazon). This book had a good big effect on me! I like the whole Crone/freedom concept.

The women in my family started doing this... It is just another good excuse to get together and party... they are celebrating life... I personally love outrageous... At one point I was planning to crash one of their parties in drag purple and red but the colors didn't go with my complexion... go figure.
