When I was four years old, I was in my parents' kitchen ..I couldnt sleep, and it was very late. Everyone else was apparently in bed, and my pet dachshund had followed me like always. I was rummaging for cookies and I heard her growl, so I ducked out of the cabinet and looked.

She was growling and had her hackles completely raised-at a very peculiar shadow coming out of the floor. I tried to console her and I even took a step towards the apparition but it suddenly took shape into a wolf like image! Thenn-n the thing opened its mouth and my dog ran for cover under the kitchen table! I really was sure it was a fluke of the light until the dog began barking frantically and woke my parents up. When the noise began, the shadowy thing vanished.

The dog lived several more years afterwards and avoided this spot on the floor where the thing appeared. I never saw it again.

Back in the old occult days (shocked?), I dealt my own tarot cards (which you are not supposed to do) and pulled the death card. It doesn't always mean a physical death, just a death to the life you are living, so sometimes just a huge change to your life. Still creeped me out, though.

Maybe 10 minutes later, a bird flew into my bedroom window, which is also a death omen.

Never messed with the occult again.

Okay, maybe not as dramatic as DOJ's but pretty scary at the time. I was just a teenager.

I only have 2 other stories, and one is religious. The other is just finding a dead body when I was about 10, and I totally blocked the memory (even to this day), so not much to tell.

I've got two. I'll do the short one first.

My grandfather passed when I was ten. Several months after he died, I woke up in the middle of the night and saw my grandfather dressed in his white union suit, walking in front of my bed carrying his shoes. He looked up me, put his finger to his lips, and walked out the door down the hall toward his old bedroom.

Early one morning I was fishing, the full moon was setting, and I felt as if someone was watching me. I turned to see a cat staring at me, it's eyes reflecting the moon light. I tossed a rock at it and it took off. A couple of minutes later I had the same feeling and turned around only to see a woman dressed in a white nurse's uniform staring at me.
She looked at me, shook her head, and walked down the road.
A car came down the road within seconds of when she left. I ran up to look and the road was empty. I packed my gear and left in a hurry. I never fished that spot again, even in daylight.

Went to a car show with two friends when I was 17. The Chevy booth was giving away a prize every hour. I filled out an entry for the next drawing. Standing there before the drawing calmly and suddenly in my head came an incredibly strong thought that I am going to WIN I AM GOING TO WIN!... over and over... I thought I was having a brain attack!... and I was wondering if my face was showing my panic and crazyness inside my head and I debated and debated should I tell anyone? should I ? Will this pass?... and I decided to say something so I said to Paul "Look... there are bells going off in my head... I don't know what's wrong and I think I'm ok but I'm just letting you know right now that I think I'm going to win.... it's just an incredible feeling of certainty...I am going to win!"

... and two minutes later I did.... I absolutely went bonkers when the guy called my name...

..... I won....

....

...

....

... a keychain...

I don't know what else to say about it. Never had anything like it since.

Great tales! And I love how theyre each so very different in tone- the fishing story is amazing!!

I've had quite a few supernatural-type experiences, because I lived in my grandmother's home, which she haunted.

The house itself is totally non-descript, a simple pre-fab rectangle affair built between wars nestled in the middle of a tiny DC Beltway community. Not a very likely setting for a haunting.

I moved into the place in 1992, and didnt experience much more than bad vibes until I got married and was pregnant. Just some of the things that happened on a near nightly basis:

Heavy footsteps going in one direction only, to the kitchen.

If I did dishes that night at the sink (no dishwasher), later on the distinct sound of breaking dishes..

If we went to sleep and the thing wasnt ready to settle down for the night, we'd get the sound of a spoon banging the side of a pot, right beside our heads.

The biggest episode was after the baby arrived. My husband and I settled to bed and had just drifted off a little when I heard an enormous crash in the basement. It actually sounded as though someone was breaking in through one of the old fashioned basement casement windows. Both of us bolted from bed and hubby barred the basement door and turned the ADT motion alarm on and waited. I didnt sleep the rest of the night (hubby managed to!). Next morning, since the alarm didnt go off and nothing outside the house seemed disturbed, we went downstairs to find nothing had been disturbed at all.

Now for the fun part: I told my dad about this last episode over the phone, describing the noise in detail. He went completely quiet, then said, 'Your Grandmother got really mad at your Grandfather one night after he came in late. She tossed his portable TV down the basement stairs'.

There's a "haunted" exit ramp on a nearby highway. The ramp is a downward slope. The story goes.... a long time ago a little girl was run over by a car at the bottom of the exit.

The ghost is said to be there, with her arms held out straight as if to stop the car that ran into her. It is said that if you place your car on the spot that she was killed, and put the car in neutral, her ghost pushes the car backwards up the hill.

I tried it. At a certain spot at the bottom of the hill, I put my car in neutral. I couldn't believe that my car started to move back and forth, and then with increased acceleration went backwards up the hill!

What a rush! I think that there's probably a scientific explaination though. Maybe having to do with an electromagnetic field.

It's probably that gravity thing you mentioned in the other thread.

Sad scary story-
My husband died in July 10 years ago. A couple times a month, I would dream that he came to see me and I would have to break the bad news to him that he was dead. It was weird how practical it seemed!
Then a year and a half later, I was sitting at the computer late one night. I saw movement in the dining room window that someone was walking along the path to the backyard.
I suddenly started to cry because I knew he wouldn't be coming around in my dreams anymore. And he didn't.
Now, probably its some kind of grief thing, but it felt totally external. I knew he had finally "left."
Sounds like a Ghost Whisperer" episode.
