Get those small pumpkins, about 6" across. Cut top off. Scoop seeds/strings out. Put some gruyere and some mascarpone cheese inside. Add some fresh sage. Add some salt and pepper. Put top back on. Bake.

YUM! Also a fun food to eat. And looks great on the table.
I would definately try that!

So what is everyone doing for Thanksgiving? Are you going over the river and through the wood to grandfother's house?

Does your horse know the way to carry the sleigh through the white and drifted snow?

Are you looking forward to the wind sting your toes and biting your nose as over the gound you go?

And will you sing:
Over the river and thru the wood,
To have a first-rate play;
Oh, hear the bell ring,
"Ting-a-ling-ling!"
Hurrah for Thanksgiving Day-ay!
Over the river and thru the wood,
Trot fast my dapple gray!
Spring over the ground,
Like a hunting hound!
For this is Thanksgiving Day.

Those olden time people sure knew how to have a good time!

I will be trotting across the street, over the asphalt and up on the curb, down the driveway and into the door, dog at my side, sidedish in hand, to raise a glass and sing a toast! with friends and their cat Jack!

The family is gathering here at grandmas house and grandma must again profane her oven with m*at. Though d-i-l fixes it as I can't stand the thought of turkey guts.

As half the family is vegetarian (as well as agnostic or atheist and Buddhist) and the other half m*at eaters we compromise. I do the veggies, the pies, the really good stuff.

They do the crisped flesh of innocent birds.

But I don't judge others..no siree.

Menu:

finger food (quiche, herbed cheeses, doritos for the pagans (id teens)

toasted carmalized pecan and bleu cheese dressing on fresh granny grown salad greens

garlic mashed potato
sweet potato soufle

dead bird with instant dressing provided by d-i-l, dead bird guts gravy

crisped scallions on fresh green beans

fresh buttermilk rolls (from scratch)

pumpkin pie and cheesecake.

I just trialed the eggnog cheesecake recipe pie today..made it with a grapenuts cereal crust with some toasted filberts processed in. It's wonderful

It will be here at my sister's. She thinks ten people. 6 friends, 4 family. Pretty traditional. Turkey w/stuffing, mashed potatoes, grilled vegetable salad, cranberry and gravy. Friends are bringing desserts, wine, boiled shrimp etc. Should be a good time.

we always have a good time..the rule is everyone has to be here prior to noon so the family can sing Alices Restaurant (in 4 part harmony) to start the day off.
Then comes out every orderve that the women can dream up, the gooier and more butter or cheese filed the better. I love bleu cheese puffs, To die for.

2 TV's and the radio/iPod going, lots of talking, about 35 people (in a 1 bathroom house). And the friends who drop by ..such fun. I was a foster parent for 15 years and that is the day the foster kids seem to want to come back by for me to meet their children, new spouses and talk over the problems going on in their lives, with promises to call me real soon to talk. Then next year the same thing.
Last Thanksgiving I house sat in Costa Rica and the foster kids freaked out when my house was dark and the phone wasn't answered.
Has mom died? ...Yeah and gone to heaven! It's 88 degrees in Costa Rica on the beach where she is house sitting (it was in the high 40s here and very cold and windy.
I love it

My whole contribution to Thanksgiving is cleaning.
Since our house is the largest, all the relatives come here. While Grandmama cooks pies and turkey, I run around scrubbing the rooms that contain teenagers and dogs and cats.
I also put up decorations that require a stepladder. (Grandmama is not steady on her feet but she would climb a ladder to hang a wreath...)
Luckily all the relatives bring side dishes so we have a good spread, even a tofurky for the vegetarians.
