What's the most ridiculous thing youhave heard that a particular religion/cult believes or has done in the name of their belief?Something that makes you think, how can they be so stupid?

I couldn't believe the news when I hear about the Heav's Gate cult. 39 members killed themselves whenthe comet Hale-Bopp reached the point nearest the sun's orbit, believing--what??? There's a spaceship behing the commet? Really?? Their soulswere going to betransported to the spaceship?

Definitely a tragedy, but it also brings to my mind the Darwin awards.

Hey Mel,

interesting topic. Well those HG clowns certainly deserved a top Darwin award thats fo sho.

One thing that bothers me about Christianity is the exclusion of the Jewish people just because their belief is somewhat different than mainstream Christian thought. After all wasn't Jesus originally a Jew?

I totally agree vaps. And now that we're picking on Christians...

can I just mention that Easter is coming? No doubt we will get to see again this year some fanatics from the Philippines who think the best way to live and celebrate the teachings of Jesus Christ is to reenact the passion and death byhavingthemselves actuallynailed to crucifixes. I missed that message myself in the New Testament, so I don't get it.

I just got done reading The 19th Wife. How anyone can believe that it's god's will for a man to have more than one wife is beyond me.

The Darwin awards are precisely why that wasn't a tragedy.

I love Christians but the fundalmentalists do try my patience sometimes...but you know what I never get, is why don't people just go after the fundalmentalists about giants and long life? There are reported giants and people who lived hundreds of years old prior to the flood. That is enough to take things with a grain of salt, isn't?

You know what bugs me? The ones that show up on my doorstep wanting to give me pamphlets. Okay. I get it. You're passionate about your religion. Congratulations. I'm passionate about the fact that if I don't get my work done because I had to stand there with my eyes glazing over while you read me bible verses and ask if you can come back on Saturday for Bible study, I won't get a paycheck and the bank will come take my house away. Please. Go away. If you want me to come to your church just leave a flier on my car window. I'll decide for myself. (I used to have a pet skunk. She came in quite handy on several occasions when these doofi would show up at my door. I'd invite them in. The skunk would come wandering in. Skunks don't see well. Therefore if there were new people in the room she felt it necessary to climb their leg and sniff their chins up close and personal. Sent them on their way every time. )
