If you have been doing online dating for a while I am sure you have heard that Match.com is just for people who are looking for a date and Chemistry.com is in between looking for a date and finding a life long partner. Then eHarmony claims to be the one to find you your life long partner. Some sites have questionnaires and some measure your fingers to try to find a compatible partner. If you had the opportunity to create your own dating site what do you think would be the best way to be able to find a compatible partner. Do you think answering all these questions helps or do you think there is an easier way of meeting someone. Do you think you have to be completely compatible with the person? I am just curious if you had, the capability of creating a dating site what you think would be the best way.

I started a topic about this and I said "cars" is a good matching criteria. You tell someone what kind of car you drive and see what they think about that.

"Do you think answering all these questions helps."

(No, because they're the wrong questions...the eH questions don't match personality, they match general interests. They don't say 'here's a scenario and five possible courses of action... which would you choose and why not the others?)

It doesn't mean anything to me to read that a person is spiritual but not religious...I want to know why. I want to know how they would react in various scenarios... "How do you feel when he askes you to explain what you mean by something?" Do you feel he's being a good listener? Do you feel he's being rude?... Do you feel you're being evaluated or judged?

Explain how important the income of your partner is to you.

Explain how important the education of your partner is to you.

Explain how important the body shape of your partner is to you. Suppose you get married and he/she gains 50 lbs? How would you handle that? What would you say?

etc.

I wanted to thank you for your contribution because I may be getting a position with a new company where I will be in charge of creating a new dating site and I just want to try to make it so it covers most of the things people are unhappy about on the sites they are currently on. You provided me with some great information to think about and I appreciate it. If anyone else has any opinions please do not hesitate to provide what you feel you would like to have on a dating site. I am truly interested in getting this set up to meet peoples needs and wants and I am sure some of you have had bad experiences on some of these other dating sites that you may feel should be corrected.
Thanks,
LRB

I think there should be something on there asking how they feel about animals? This has been brought up on several of the animal sites. Also, about the types of foods they(people) may or may not eat. And,(this sounds shallow on my part), height is mentioned, why not color of hair and eyes? At least that would help on the profiles that display no photo of the person in question. Suzie

I've done the E-H/Match/Singlesnet/Yahoo online personal thing for a few years now with little success. I got turned on to E-H by the commercials on the tele proclaiming personality matching profile tests and thought it would be easier for me to meet other people like myself. I found the E-H profile quesitons to be less like a pure personality profile as I did a gallup poll. I have to go along the lines of what WeDesignOurOwnLives said before, the questions don't define personality as they do general interests. There are some things that can be kept general, average income and education level are an example of that. Scenario questions and answers would provide a greater clarity to personality. I wish I could see a scenario oriented answer to questions regarding how things would be on a date, how a person would respond in a relationship setting. One of the biggest problems I have had on E-H is going through the process and findingI have nothing in common at all with the women I am matched up with in terms of what we want out of a relationship and the way we live our lives. When I said the E-H I didn;t want to be paired up with a woman who drinks heavy I meant it, I keep on getting paired upwith women who drink heavy and party, Im not comfortable with that. I guess I want to see scenario response questions to lifestyle as well, it would potentially ease the ache of prolonged searching like i have had.

Thank you all so much for all of your ideas. I like the idea of asking about height and eyes if they are not going to provide a picture. Also, I think creating a scenario question is a good idea instead of the straight questions most of the sites provide. I appreciate all the input because this is what it takes to make a great dating site so people feel their needs are being met. If you have anything else come to mind just let me know as I want to make sure your ideas are heard.
