40 = The number of times that the Yankees have been in the World Series. There have been 104 world series. Yankees have participated in about 38% of them. The most by any team.

27 = The number of times that the Yankees have won the world series. The most of any team.

13 = The number of times that the Yankees have lost the world series. The most of any team.

By contrast the chicago white sox have been in 5 world series, winning 3 while the hapless cubbies have been in 10 series and won a stupefying 2.

In other words, the Yankees have LOST 2 world series less than the Chicago teams have been in combined.

OR.....

Andy Petite, Derek Jeter, Jose Posada, and the great GOD himself, Mariano Rivera (all current Yankees) have each won the same number of World Series as every Chicago player combined in history. Life as a sports fan can be wonderful at times.

The downside...I felt compelled to bring in 27 donuts for my coworkers.

That is all.

Oh, almost forgot. To all the Phillies fans: Congratulations on a tremendous season. The Phillies are a great team and it was an outstanding series. And all that other "good sportsmanship: nonsense.

My guess is that Timeless' response to this will be "Go Phillies"

As I keep telling the Yankee-hating Chicago fans: "Whew, that was a miserable 9 years! Do you have any idea what it's like to go NINE WHOLE years without a World Series Title?" It sucks! But now the universe is back to normal.

Coincidentally, that's also the shape of most donuts

We used to do the donut thing irregularly when I was at USF ... has anyone ever noticed that, on donut days, people not in the department are seen wandering around for no apparent reason?

I've been one of those people.
