Oh my gosh!! That's so funny - someone else suggested this to me too! lol I wonder how complicated it would be to do that . . . I have friends who know things about technology.

The Proposal

Steve says I'm supposed to tell the story because I tell it best . . . lol

It all started (well, when we met, but fast forward a bit ) when we left for Ottawa on Sunday morning. We flew out of Regina at 9:30 am and had a nice calm flight . . . once we got the mess with our tickets worked out. Steve booked the tickets with WestJet back in early September - there were fantastic seat sales on. Looking at the final price, he thought it looked a little low so he called a customer service agent and confirmed that he had booked seats for himself and one guest - me. Everything was verified and he went down to the airport to pay for the tickets. Everything was checked and verified there too and an itinerary was printed off. The next month passed blithely by with both of us looking forward to the big trip with great anticipation.

Sunday morning - 8:20 am

We arrived at the airport all prepared to check in, hop through security, and board the plane with time to spare. Not so much. When we stepped up to the counter, wouldn't you believe there was a snag. What a surprise!!! There was a ticket and intinerary for Steve, but there was nothing there for me. The unhelpful service agent told us he couldn't do anything more for us but give us the same rate we had received in September for a second ticket, despite the fact that the WestJet customer service agent had messed up, not Steve. Steve asked to speak to a supervisor. The shift leader, a very lovely and helpful lady, called Calgary and there began a great negotiation to get us on that plane a.s.a.p. The flight was set to board at 9:00 am. Time was tick, tick, ticking away and I was near tears. However, they worked out a steal of deal and my ticket cost a grand total of $104.30. I called my parents and they came through with the funds for my ultra-cheap ticket. Thank goodness!!! (Just in case you thought things were smooth from there on . . . they weren't! I got hung up at security because I had rivets in my jeans that made the alarm go off and it was discovered that Steve had "contraband" in his carry-on - it was a little Swiss Army knife he had completely forgotten about. We made it onto the plane with about three seconds to spare. Good grief!!)

The flight went well after that and we landed in Ottawa at 4:55 pm. My parents were a little late, but they made it to pick us up. I ran across the airport to hug my dad, which he says was evidence enough that something big was up with me - I'm not huge on the whole hugging thing. Anyway, my parents took to Steve right away. We went to Tim Horton's on the way to the house and had a great conversation there. My dad and Steve got to talking then and there and just went on for the rest of the weekend. Yay!!

We got to the house and my mom immediately got supper on the table and my family also had a birthday party all set up for me. My niece planned the whole party with a princess theme - I even had a tiara. Lovely!! My cake was PINK and white and had little princesses on the top. My parents very kindly bought Steve a gift too - his birthday was on October 1st. We all had a great time and even my sister took to Steve. Her kids absolutely went ape over him - Uncle Steve is a hit! After supper we all talked for a bit and then everyone went to bed, except Steve and I. It was 11 pm in Ottawa, but that's only 9 in Saskatchewan. We decided to go for a walk.

It was a beautiful night and we walked and walked. Eventually we made it to a street called Canyon Walk. We went past some really nice show homes and then stopped to look at the stars and just enjoy the moment. We had been talking about how well everything had gone with my family so far and how happy and surprised we were about it. Steve tipped his head back and, looking up at the sky, said, "I wish I could make this moment last forever." I agreed. Then he looked at me and said, "Would you like to be Mrs. Lindsey Winter?" I said, "Mmm . . . yes." He paused for the tiniest little moment and then said, "And for that reason . . . " he started to get down on one knee and reached into the inside pocket of his jacket, "I'm going to ask you this right now." I gasped, put my hand (wearing a mitten) over my mouth and whispered, "What?! Oh my goodness!!" He was holding my right hand and asked, "Lindsey, will you please marry me?" I didn't hesitate for a nanosecond. "Yes!!" I said, all giddy and trembly. "I didn't really expect to hear anything else," he said, smiling all big. Then he pulled the mitt off my left hand and slid the ring on my finger and stood up. He hugged me and we laughed and I half-cried and we were all happy and silly and, to use my niece's word, we got all 'spoony.'

It was beautiful and SO us - spontaneous. When I finally got a hold on myself, I realized we were standing right by a bus stop! lol

I hardly slept that night. We had decided to tell everybody in the morning, so I had to somehow keep my hand hidden until we had a chance to tell them. That was difficult! lol We finally told them once breakfast was over and they were so excited!! There wasn't any tension at all - even from my dad. He said he knew it was coming. When he was talking to Steve later that morning, he told Steve that I used to be a a complete daddy's girl, but that now I was Steve's. That's a huge thing for my dad, especially considering his initial reaction to the news that I was dating.

Everything went so well!!!! Yay!!!!

Thanks, WISYS!!

I'll try attaching a picture of the ring actually on my hand. It's gone in for sizing right now, but we did manage to get a picture of it before we took it in. I won't have my ring for a week!
