Okay every now and then we commonly say things that just really don't make any sense. I'm sure I am not the only one that has thought of this ... so, I am p osting alon g...

Why do we call a pair of pants when its really one item?

Driveway and parkway? Shouldn't the drive way be called the parkway? and vice versa.... erh?

Head over heels confuzzles me. Your head is ALWAYS over your heels if you're standing upright, so why does it mean turning flips or excited beyond reckoning?

When you ask a question and the person responds, "I wanna say...I wanna say..."

If you want to say it, then just say it!

These are a couple I hear regularly enough to get irritated with them.

~ Pull the other leg, it'll play Jingle Bells!

~ In my day ... (the speaker is about 20yo)

~ In a pig's ear.

Question from friend, "How are y'all doin'?"

Me, confuzzled, looking around, "Ehhhh, it's just me here."

When we were kids, around my grandfather, if we messed with something like a knick-knack or tool or some kind of utensil, and didn't know what it was and asked him, he'd answer "Layovers to catch meddlers".

It still doesn't make sense. What's a layover got to do with it?

Ya know I'd never heard that till recently an all I know is, it means ya meddlin in somethin ya shouldnt.
So why not jus say, ya meddlin an get it over with instead of sayin 'Layovers to catch meddlers'
I already know I'm meddle-some that wont confuzzle me to bad if ya jus come straight out an say it.

How bout B.F.E.? Like I'm in BFE! Only the real phrase instead of the initals. I dont get it.

Messin an a gommin. Now thats really country or somethin, but why not jus say messin round? Or up to no good? Or even B.S'n I jus dont get it.

That was funny, I did LOL!

Here it is 'we'. As in: 'And how is we today?' Haha - the speaker's face is a picture; I usually reply with 'I don't know about YOU, however I am very well. Thank you.' And I grin like this:

‘Fixin’ ta’, as in ‘I’m getting ready to do something’, but not necessarily getting ready to ‘fix’ something, although it could mean that as well. Huh?
